Pep's Taxi!

I'm not good with the area but it's at the bottom of Pilsworth rd, seems they have their own speedway track in there... The centre is the best, it's like an episode of the walking dead, I've seen more teeth on a newborn!!!

It actually used to be a nice town before Rochdale took over. It's gone steadily downhill since then, combined of course with it being built largely on the cotton industry. As soon as the mills closed the town was basically fucked.

I used to watch the strippers in the criterion on a Sunday afternoon in darnhill .
You never see pubs showing "exotic" dancers anymore. Bastards.

Good pub the Criterion, another one that's bit the dust.

And FFS, Why then, if they have being doing it for 30 years, has one not happened at a School near me or at where any of our friends children have gone to school?
Why don't you ring the club and ask! I'm sure it's a case of you haven't bothered to enquire or research it yourself, instead relying on word of mouth from friends and because nobody has mentioned it - you assume City doesn't do it. I'd have a look myself just to shut you up, if I did I'm sure I could find some CITC work in the areas you mention. I'm not sure the relevance of this or how this relates to your master plan of engaging supporters in place of the much maligned (exclusively by you incidentally) Pep's Taxi? I'm sure the club got the response it was looking for from what everyone else agrees is a great bit of PR.

Really?? I dropped one this morning at st Mary's in Heywood, they're going to another at the cooperative academy on Friday (blakely) - they're located in terms of accessibility, failsworth is hardly miles away from blakely...

Like I said, you've not really researched it, have you? https://www.mcfc.co.uk/~/media/Files/CITC/2015/Summer 2015 Layout (2).ashx

And Salford doesn't really come under the demographic, for obvious reasons but the main being its a rag infested locality!!
Cheers @Zin 'messiah' Zimmer saved me the bother? I can't believe anyone would resort to questioning the work CITC do or find it lacking in any way, they do some fantastic work.

I rang City and tried to get them into my school, the rags already do 2 6-week blocks of sessions for the kids, hence why they all bum the rags - I wanted City to get a look in too, and I could have easily got them in and got them kids to work with.

They weren't interested.

There is and always has been since the scheme started in 86, boundaries to stop clubs going into other local clubs areas. Salford is classed as a united area. We have had a regulator base at Failsworth High. Many a rag claim we are a Stockport club but CITC don't do many Stockport schools because that steps into County territory. Simple really.

All well and good but that doesn't explain why @The_Maverick's friend's kids haven't had it at their school and why he hasn't heard of the scheme in it's 30th year.

I'm in Salford, which is now going to categorize me, wrongly, as a Rag. Last time I checked that is within a 20 mile radius. I have friends in Moston and Failsworth who have never had any CITC activity at their kids school.

Got 2 daughters who go to school in Failsworth and both have done activities/ been involved with CITC stuff.

They've had CITC people go to the school on occasions, but more often they've actually been taken to the new training complex for coaching and other sports related activities.

They also play football for the local JFC and played in tournaments run by City at the training complex which were good. Following the tournament they were then given free entry to watch City's Women in the afternoon.

It seems that rather than going round the schools, City now concentrate on getting the schools to come to them. Kinda makes sense them spending £200 mil on the training complex and trying to get the max usage they can from it.

So you are saying that we wait for people to come to us?

Nope, CITC continually invite schools/ JFC's etc to come to the training complex for activities, rather than always going out to the schools.

Fair enough. When this thread developed into what it is I now never expected to bring CITC into it. My point was that there more could be done to better engage. The City TV and CITC are brilliant initiatives, and do some fantastic work. That doesn't mean I have to personally agree with all of it.

Seeing as we are talking about perspectives the are two different opinions expressed on this thread. Firstly that the old 20 mile rule doesn't apply and that secondly there are boundaries where a club can recruit from. Which one is true?

Failsworth was one that was mentioned. I have used the Leisure Centre on Brierley Ave for a number of years and have never seen any promotional material regarding CITC. The pitches installed across the road look amazing but there was no opportunity to use them. Imagine how much good publicity could be generated by a group of people with learning disabilities having a kick around on one of those pitches?

And before you ask, I did enquire about use of them but was told they were for the use of Failsworth School only.

With regard to inviting people to come to the training complex, are you saying that CITC would put on transportation for those interested?

Partly agree with you that there might be a 'visibility' issue regarding CITC, but i think that could mainly be due to a lot of the activities being run in conjunction with other agencies (like the FA, Sport England etc).

I don't know anything about the 20 mile rule, so can't help you on that.

With regard to the Soccer Centre across the road from the school, whoever told you its for Failsworth School use only is wrong. The school now has its own all weather pitches behind the school which they use. The school is still linked to the Soccer centre but its management and control falls more under the FA and Oldham council afaik. JFC's like Failsworth Dynamoes & Failsworth Villa use it extensively to train on (as well as the pitches behind the school), and you can still hire a pitch for a kickabout if required http://www.failsworthlg.co.uk/2/Prices.html

Not sure if you know how JFC funding works, but the FA have been trying to encourage them for years to do this sort of thing. JFC's apply to the FA for 'Charter' accreditation and the higher the accreditation you have, the more funding you can get from them. A minimum number of teams etc is required for the basic level. You get higher levels by having womens or girls teams etc. The highest accreditation is reserved for those that run teams or facilities for people with disabilities. I don't know any local teams that have managed to do this or make a success of it.
Therefore, i think if the CITC were to be involved in something like this, it would be easier and more successful if it was run from the training complex.

Regarding transport, my girls were taken to the complex by the school on all occasions, but have heard that City/CITC have provided transport to there in some special circumstances for other groups.

You raise some great points and thank you for the fulsome response. As I'm sitting down to eat, can I respond to you later.
