Performance emhancing drugs (PEDs) and stimulants in English football.

Personally I think PED's are used within football, for a long time. I have always been thought it odd how utd would still be so strong after 90 minutes and score so many late goals. Same goes with liverpool but add no injuries.
Leicester winning season is the 'most' odd one. If Leicester had been a pro tour cycling team big question would be asked and their players being drug tested daily. Plus the press/media would be implying something is wrong. But nothing no investigation nothing said what's so ever. Yet if you look at Leicester season before and the season after their win. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

I have no idea how offended footballers are drug tested ? Is it weekly ?
I read that each player is tested once a year. Every team has player's on PED's. Little testing, profession is dependent on staying in amazing condition with amazing stamina and recovery. Just look at how much player's cheat on the pitch which gives a good indication that they will have no problem cheating off it.

once a year ? really as little as that, bloody hell in that case than PEDs are used 100%

Actually the latest information I could find regarding testing is from the 2017-2018 season. There were 5018 samples collected. For a 25 man squad across 20 teams it's about 6 tests on average per player.

It state's that they collect after the match and randomly but not how many of each they do. Considering random tests are much more important than after match tests as they are 1) not scheduled and 2) the PED's are more beneficial out of competition.

My only worry is that if it’s as rife as I believe it is, then I can’t imagine that we’re innocent.

So I (choose to?) believe the football world is clean.. Apart from Asthmatic FC, something dodgy going on there for sure

Yeah it's likely a lot of clubs included us are in some way dodgy. In the same way every top boxer is likely on the juice. Pep has a weird history with stuff like this. If we were guilty I doubt we'd be uniquely guilty is what I'm trying to say.

Either that or nobody is.

They all are on PED but some are on better and more crafted programm like Armstrong and his team in cycling.

There is too much money at stake in football. Even in minor sports or at amateur level, athletes take drugs.

From a club organization, it would be kinda "criminal" and very sloppy not to engage into doping, sadly.

I can't imagine a single top club not investing in every area in order to win. PED give rather good results for the money invested.

Is this just a suspicion or are clubs and players actually doing this. How stringent are drug tests in football. What PEDs can be used that will allow players to use something that is either not tested for or not banned in football

Clearly my lot don't use it....or they've bought a shit batch

It's not that much of a mystery to be honest. Teams that control the ball do less running and therefore are fresher at the end of the game. They also tend to have better players to bring on late. We're one of the best teams at scoring late. It's also worth mentioning that when you play a high energy team like Liverpool, they do it in bursts, not for 90 minutes. They clearly used to have a plan to start fast and overwhelm the opponents, and it often worked, but if they didn't score in the first 30 minutes, they'd struggle to break teams down. Zidane recognised this against them in the Champions League final and set his team up to stop them in the first half before absolutely dominating the second.

Which isn't to say the PEDs aren't used, but if they are, it's likely to be by everyone. And it will probably be in the form of TUEs rather than actual banned substances. I've still only ever heard that single source for the Liverpool asthma thing.

What we're often looking at with teams that overachieve is luck with injuries (how many did Leicester have?) and a lack of total games (compare our total games to Liverpool's or Leicester's when they won the league), which of course are linked. Also luck with decisions.

A few years ago there were big headlines about City and 'drugs offences'. It turned out to be admin error where a junior player had changed address and another had gone out on loan and the club had failed to notify the testers.
I thought that the authorities were really tight on testing. But as the old saying goes
'Thought followed a shit cart and thought it was a wedding.'
I hope the Covid testers do their job better.
