Pete The Badge Q&A

i once saw him with his rather chunky radio outside Portman Road one Saturday afternoon in 88/89 after the game. It wasn’t a pocket radio that you used to see fans holding on the last day of the season but the sort you’d have in your kitchen. As he had his radio, I asked him if he knew the scores from elsewhere. Rather brilliantly, he then rewound the tape and played the results.

I often wondered if he did that to provide a service to fellow blues or so he could memorise the results on the way home.

* youngsters - ask your parents about Saturday afternoon games, transistor radios and tapes.
Remember a guy called Lawrence in the seventies who was always the fella for latest scores on his CR7.

It would have been around that time as Tina sorted me out a ticket for the Bradford away promotion game. Frank Newton of the bananas craze got it me, it was in the Bradford stand that got rebuilt after the fire and he even got me the Bradford membership card with it.
Frank lived near to Bradford back then, in Cleckheaton. He sorted out a very decent number of Blues with tickets for that game!
Funnily enough was chatting with him only yesterday!

That's right he was a real star I've never seen him since that day. I was living in Dover then and I had very little money as I was on the seaman's strike of 1988. I caught a coach down there and ended up in a DHSS B+B on Manningham Lane that took in the odd regular person.

After the game I met up with Frank and a few of the lads for a drink but lost them in-between pubs. I went back to the B+B and this couple who stayed there for free in return for working were up. We stayed up until the early hours drinking and having some weed listening to music. What a weekend!

If you speak to Frank tell him Paul from Dover ( Not there now) says thanks again for the ticket and if this shit ever ends I'll buy him a few drinks.

I walked back with him a small part of the way. Apparently he may have to give his season ticket up as he travels from London at the expense is getting too much.

The bus could be a good cheaper option.
for the Southampton game on the 18th.
0700 to 1200 and 1800 to 22.50 under £11 return.

Has anyone one seen Pete at the Etihad this season ?

I saw him against Norwich getting his butty box going over by the stewards at the table outside the turnstiles. He was also there yesterday. Crying shame if he had to give it up due to the cost of travel etcetera. He's a character who's been there through the bad times, I sometimes wish the club would help out and treasure these people a bit more before they're gone forever.
