I don’t think he’s a rag because he’s just as bad about Liverpool. I think like click bait stories, bbc decisions on which FA Cup matches to show or magazine covers, United and Liverpool will always be more popular nationwide than City. He is a complete company man but unfortunately, that company hasn’t kept up with what is happening under their noses. They (sky) long for the days when United and Liverpool we’re competing at the top.
Tyler has admitted he wanted Liverpool to win the league in 2014. It’s ingrained in him.
When Scudamore admitted that a poor United was bad for the product, it told us all we need to know. When he then said their was a strategic plan to ensure a new name on the trophy every 6 years, the media didn’t bat an eyelid. That shows us that English football isn’t quite what it seems. The blindingly obvious question was “What strategic plan?”
It’s as simple as this;
We all know there are more plastic rags and scousers in towns around the country.
If you had a tv channel that had the choice of which of three games to show but you couldn’t show it in the city where the match took place and we’re promised £10 for every person who watched the game on tv, what order would you pick from these three games;
1) Liverpool v Hull City
2) City v Southampton
3) United v Reading?
Now entertainment wise, you’d probably go 2, 3, 1 because of the league places separating the teams.
However, if it’s purely in your own financial interests, you’d surely go 3, 1, 2.
If we can work that out, you can be certain that tv executives will know what sells and what their customers want to hear. Add in a man who is promoted by the masses as the voice of football and is prepared to tow the line and you have a winning formula.
Sky won’t give two fucks that they alienate City fans tuning in because they will know that around 80 - 90% of our fans will be at the match rather than listening at home.
With United and Liverpool it’s probably the opposite so they are pleasing their customers by being negative towards us.
Journalists, referees, commentators and the football authorities all stand to earn more money if the product is successful so why would any of them rock the boat?
If I’m born in Scarborough and support the Seadogs but am told I will earn more money if United and Liverpool are shown in a good light, why on earth would I buck the trend and cost myself money?
If, as the same Scarborough fan, I am employed as a referee, a sky commentator, a newspaper editor of the Chief Executive of the Premier League, the same question remains.
I’m absolutely certain that one day, evidence will escape into the public domain that the game is corrupt. The shame is that due to the media having their snouts in the same trough, there’ll be no desire to tell the world that the pigswill is no good.
