Peter Drury replaces Martin Tyler on Sky Sports

I never hear the guy commentate as I'm always at the ground for home games or I watch a stream or listen to GMR for aways.
I met him this year due to my work and I can honestly say he's a really nice bloke.
He was shocked when I told he I was a City fan, as this was after the Dippers v Madrid game.
He knows 'we' don't like him but he says he tends to go for the underdog in games.
We were always the underdog but not any more.
He said he really wanted dippers to win the league cos of the ' story' (hype) around the 96 etc.
As he left he started singing,
' City, City, the best team in the land etc !

As I said I don't listen to his commentaries and told him so.
He did say he wAs just very lucky to have had the mike when Sergio scored to win the league .

As well as the scum, arse, chavs, dippers etc lol.

It would be nice if he didn't 'go for the underdog' and just gave an impartial enjoyable commentary on both teams playing.

Not a dig at all at you bud :-)

Watched the scrum v saints game yesterday. After 70 minutes and without a shot on target,Tyler commented that a scum win would narrow the gap between us and them by 2 points, quite correct .Amazingly when Southampton scored and subsequently won he failed to notice or comment that the points gap had in fact increased by 1

But he did quote that a team that cost £274m should be able to get a shot on target.

I thought he'd failed to notice Southampton had scored.

I cannot abide Tyler. Officially he is listed as a supporter of an amateur team but I have an old football book were he professes his love for Arsenal. He also does corporatI find him a biased commentator whenever they are involved. He just cannot hide it in his voice.

He certainly didnt seem all that interested in their goal.

I find that commentators as they get older start to believe their own hype

They start pretty poor as they get used to the job, they then achieve the necessary mix of commentating on sides impartially, then they get some fame and mix with players, managers etc. and become star struck and tend to mix with the so called top clubs and lick arse.

Tyler should go now before he becomes like Motson which is basically a joke
