You should never pity an activist.
Where did I say I pitied him?
And what if it was a peace activist whose family had been murdered in front of him in an act of genocide?
It seemed a little like you did. My point is he likes to get his agenda across in an inappropriate manner
That is possibly so, but the description I gave about his bravery was due to the fortitude with which he dealt with the Bermondsey by-election in 1983.
<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermondsey_by-election,_1983" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermondsey ... tion,_1983</a>
The way he was treated, including by people within the Labour Party, was disgusting and by all accounts he dealt with it with a great deal of dignity. IIRC Simon Hughes has subsequently apologised to him for his treatment in that campaign.
The reason I described him as principled is that he promotes his views without any concern as to how he is perceived by the wider public. It is not without irony that someone who in my view was inadvertently partially responsible for the creation of New Labour is a master publicist who is
not obsessed with his public image.
Saying what he did about Whitney Houston seems a little hasty and whilst I don't agree with it and especially its timing, it is born out of a wider concern (that I share) that vast numbers of people in society cannot express their sexuality openly, which I consider to be a personal tragedy for them.
