I wish I believed in God and the afterlife and could take solace in the fact that you’ll now be in eternal damnation, being raped by an Elephant whilst having hot pokers stuck down your throat. But alas I don’t, good riddance you absolute ****

I was 16 and had just started work when the murders were at their peak. I was genuinely frightened, especially so having to travel home in the dark. The fear for women in the North was palpable and it was pretty bad.
I remember it well mackenzie, a truly horrible time for females, it became almost law where I lived that nobody's Mother, Sister, Daughter etc walked alone after dark without 'an escort', and I can't imagine we were the only ones who adopted that rule.

I remember travelling to school (St Greg's) on the 50 bus, travelling up Anson Road/Upper Brook St) and an area behind MRI was cordoned off, and one of those large tents had been erected. Must have been around 77-78 time. Horrific time for ladies in the North of England.

Yes, it was awful.
I often think not just of the general family members of the victim but also the children that were left behind by some. Awful to lose a mother like that but the constant reminder every time his name came up must have made it even worse in the 40 odd years since. As a child it's difficult enough to take in but the further context of it all must have been horrific for young minds.
