I might be wrong on this, but I thought the ruling was that the "Welsh" clubs in the English League could qualify thru England(in the say way Derry have qualifed for the ROI), because they can't get in thru the Welsh FA.mammyjam said:couldn't be bothered reading the whole thread so if nobody has already said this then cardiff along with swansea, wrexham, newport, talbot and another club i can't spell have been in the english league system for over a hundred years, longer than a few english clubs. (leeds united being one of them) i don't know whay this is all i can find is historical reasons... if anyone knows please tell me it's doing my head in.
anyway the point is they shouldn't be made to play in the welsh league which tbh is of a lower standard than the 2nd or 3rd tier on non-league. imagine if someone told us we had to go and play in the ryman northern division premier north south west, sod that. putting them back in the welsh system (which is the wrong choice of words as they were never in the welsh system) would kill them, with the possible exception of the 3 that actually are non league.
besides due to fifa ruling against a welsh club representing england they cannot qualify for europe anyway so no danger :)

a statement from the FA in 2008: “Our position remains unchanged and should Cardiff win the FA Cup this season they would not be chosen as the FA’s nomination for European competition.Cardiff enter into English domestic competitions on this understanding and they are fully aware of the rules and regulations under which they take part. These rules remain the same and there would be no scope for Cardiff, or any of the other Welsh clubs in the English system, to qualify for Europe as England’s representative.”
might have changed since then though...
why does everyone keep saying the SPL is a high quality league? its not its siht they're ranked 16th in europe... i don't think i can name 16 high quality top divisions in europe... but i'll try England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany,Holland erm... Turkey,Russia..... Norway and Sweden? Belgium maybe surely Poland can't be above them? the Urkraine? but they only have 2 decent teams, mind you so do Scotland i suppose... 13 and im all out :-S
The Championship is of a higher Standard than the SPL if all scottish teams played in England Celtic and Rangers would yo-yo between prem and championship and the rest would be league 1/2
No. Nothing wrong with Cardiff getting into the EPL. Can't be arsed reading all the posts as Corrie is on. By the way, and I've posted this before, I actually believe Wales is a principality of England. Don't exactly know what difference that makes, but I'm sure someone will know.mancity dan said:We play in the ENGLISH premier league not a UNITED KINGDOM premier league.
Anyone out there able to make up a petition to stop Cardiff getting into the EPL?
Thanks

I am Welsh and proud and also proud to be British, when there is a war we fight together and so on.
Cardiff city have been in the lower divisions for many years and never have i heard of Why are they in the English League as much as now. I think it will be a good thing for banter and i think if Rangers and Celtic in the premier it would be good for the same reason.
Well done for anyone with common sense and there seems to be many on this board, but shame on the few. Good luck in your football future from a great Welsh club to a great English club.

You should be proud of your heritage (even if it is Welsh :-) !!) CBA, personally if you earn the right, your deserve to play in the best league in Europe! Although i feel that Blackpool may well spoil the party - either way good luck to ya buddy!
