Petition - No to Cardiff !!

When they first joined the English league system, they did so because there was no professional Welsh league.

And it's not the same as Rangers and Celtic, because they have served their time in the lower leagues.

Do I like Cardiff? No. But this kind of thing is less than pathetic.

They would be better than Blackpool, just think of all the players who would be going on the pleasure beach before the match, and it would all end in tears when poor little shauny couldn't get on any of the rides.

You have just answered your own question there mate. Back in the day, i'm sure the 'influx' of the Welsh clubs made for a more interesting league. Its exactly the same.

Question Pigeonho for you if I may. Can Cardiff actually qualify for Europe through English competitions?

Not sure if this has been covered as I got bored about Page 5, but my understanding is that they can't. Ateam can only qualify if it is in the country in which it competes, hence Monaco etc are also ineligable. I seem to recall this almost became an issue the other year when Cardiff were in the FA Cup final the other year, and the UEFA place was going elsewhere, regardless off the result.

Wales isn't a country, it's a principality, so in effect it is part of England.

Longshanks turned Wales into a Principality under English law, which is why it is known as England & Wales today.

Edward I tried to do the same with Scotland, but failed in his quest. Which is why Celtic and Rangers can do one!!!!!

Until Wales gains full independence from the English, Cardiff, Swansea etc can play in the English leagues, like Glamorgan can in cricket and hold Ashes test matches.

Bellamy has a tattoo on his arm of the Battle of Pilleth, which was the last time the Welsh fought the English and drove the English out. It worked for a while but English dominance proceeded with penal laws up until 1535, when Henry VIII, ordered Cromwell to find a solution to threats from the Welsh Marches. This solution was the annexation of Wales with England under a union.

Personally, I prefer Blackpool!

Why is it suddenly a problem now they could be promoted to the Premiership? Doesn't it matter if they're only playing in the fizzy pop league?

i hope blackpool beat them, as like millwall and leeds their fans are twats of the highest order,if they had lost that penalty shoot out gods knows what would of happened...

Don't know mate, although I can't see why not.

Sure that when they were in the Cup Final UEFA declared they would not qualify for Europe

-- Thu May 13, 2010 12:38 pm --

They'll bring a good loud away following. So they are more than welcome in my opinion.

I remember a game about 1992ish when Cardiff were due to play Stockport away. That game, for whatever reason, was postponed but the Cardiff fans were already in the area. We let them into our game, anyone remember that? They went into the away end. Not sure who we were playing but I remember being stood in the Kippax and all the older blokes were having good banter with the Welsh.

Thought they were due to play Huddersfield? We were playing Southampton

I can't understand why they don't go into the Welsh Premier League as they would be guaranteed Europe every year. Maybe it's something to do with money they get from our FA yet they are allowed to refer bookings and red cards to the Welsh FA. What a Joke.

It's quite simple. The prize money for winning the Welsh Premier League is less than half the posters on this forum earn in a year, I'd fathom. The TV money is non-existent, and the presence of Cardiff and Swansea would NOT seal a new TV deal. They wouldn't manage to offset that money with European revenue, either, because there's very little money in the early stages of the CL and their teams would deteriorate in quality within 2 years as all the ambitious players left to go to England. I'll put it simply - if they went into the Welsh PL, they'd go bankrupt in 3 years. I promise you.

No they can't. UEFA rules say that Welsh teams can only qualify via Welsh competitions, though in 07-08 when Cardiff got to the FA Cup final UEFA offered Cardiff a wildcard entry without sacrificing any English entries.

forget which country they are in..... the real issue is should the Premier league let a team who have a similar financial track record to Portsmouth into the league. They are run by Peter Risdale (says it all really) and had 2 winding up orders over the last 6 months... they conned the fans into stumping up season ticket money for next season on the promise that they would buy new players in the January window.... they spent that money on paying off the tax man..... I reckon they will have 9 points deducted by next Christmas...... so I say COME ON BLACKPOOL.
