Phil and Jack on the lash?

Some right Mary Whitehouse types on here - the Covid element applies fairly equally to all our other players if they’re out travelling/socialising full stop IMO. Of course it would be better if they all isolated but the club needs to mandate that if there’s that expectation and they don’t seem to have done so. Their offence in Pep’s eyes seems to have been to have had a few too many and piss about in training next day - absolutely fair they get slapped son the wrist, dropped and called out to make up for it, end of story. Of course he has to run a tight ship and stamp this stuff out, that part of his job I managing a bunch of young lads. Some of the statements on here going way too far. I swear all the riches etc aside, a very small part of me feels sorry for these lads who are expected to be consummate professionals at all times - I know I couldn’t do it.

I hear you, it is such a high standard and the going out isn't the problem, it's turning up for training worse for wear. At the same time they are rewarded beyond our comprehension for that level of discipline. If this becomes a pattern they won't stay at the top level as long as they could because someone younger and hungrier will do better than them.

If they can’t do it there are plenty of other clubs for them where it’s not an issue. Villa, maybe. They are expected to be consummate professionals at City because we are the elite. To remain the elite you have to be serious about what you’re doing. You can feel sorry for them but tbh they DO have a choice. They either want to be the best they can be, for the best team on the planet, or they don’t. It’s perfectly possible for them to retain this lifestyle and be a professional footballer. Just not here. But they can choose that, it’s down to them really. Pep will try to help them both but they have to decide what they want to be.
Exactly, you can be Robinho, Balotelli or Quaresma if you want, you'll still make a ton if money from football and you can have a good time. Or you can be a professional and make sacrifices to get to and stay at the top.

It's not the 90s anymore, you're professional athletes, looking after yourself is part of the job.

Phil would need to be careful that he doesn't get a reputation as a party animal. He had that episode while away with England (with Greenwood, wasn't it?), now this. The lad has the world at his feet, he is potentially a huge star. Don't fuck it up Phil. And yes; I realise perfectly well that he's young, and is entitled to some "off time". He just has to be sensible, and not get totally wasted, as may (repeat, MAY) have been the case here.
