How many passings should we highlight though?

Yeah I understand what you mean. But it's up to individuals. I can't imagine anyone telling Jedinak or Federici that they can't do such a thing.

The minute silence thing is I think a more worthy debate. As to where do you stop.

Off topic this though.
Fair comment, TSteve
I can fully understand the the international sides ie Rugby, Cricket being an appropriate outlet for recognition but outside of that, it seems that the sentiment is more than a little over played to me.
What next, guns, berets, boxing gloves hung in the net? (not directed at you) We've enough we the 15/19/57/69 minutes rounds of applause at games. Its got to stop somewhere.

And what is it exactly that bothers you so much? These are two Australians who pretty much watched a fellow countryman and sportsman die on television a few days before his 26th birthday and honouring him in some small way that they didn't force on anybody else.

These kind of posts and comments do my nut in. So what if there are a million rip threads, 400 games that have clapping in the 34th minute or some people putting a cricket bat outside their house. Why does it bother you, and many others so much? Just ignore it if you don't like it. There's absolutely no need to post what you did.

Who said it bothers me?

And yesterday - Israeli cricket umpire killed by ball

An umpire at a cricket match in the Israeli city of Ashdod has died after being hit by a ball.

A batsman's shot struck Hillel Oscar in the neck, possibly after a ricochet from the stumps at his end of the pitch.

An umpire at a match in Wales died five years ago after a ball thrown by a fielder hit him on the head.

Im not a cricket fan but feel sorry for the guy and his family of course

I dont get the national outpouring of grief and the cancelling of a test match though

when the build big buildings and bridges, some blokes fall of and die, doing theyre jobs, just like Phil Hughes

do they cancel construction for a week, is there an outpouring of emotion in the media?

No

Another cricket death being reported with an umpire being killed by a ball in Israel. Seems tohave come off the bat and hit him on the head.

I'm a bit skeptical about this , would the Media have highlighted this story if Hughes hadn't died from that incident ? Millions around the world play cricket every day - I'm pretty sure there is at least 1 cricket related death every day around the world. Just the same as any other sports.

I know exactly where you're coming from. The most irritating thing is people, news outlets etc jumping on the bandwagon when a sportsmen dies.

When poor Dan Wheldon the IndyCar driver died a few years back it was all over the news. Yet his best work when he miraculously won the Indy 500 on the last straight of the last lap in a car he'd only got a deal for that race. An almost unbelievable win.. he had almost no coverage whatsoever.

He wasn't an ordinary guy doing his job though he was an internationally known sportsman. Cricket was his countries national sport so it will obviously have hit them and their players hard. You're not a cricket fan as you say so maybe it hasn't affected you like it has cricket fans but put it this way if Aguero was killed on the field would you be bemoaning the national outpouring of grief and saying he was just doing his job, somehow methinks not.

You should read this article, it explains better than I can why deaths in sport hit people so hard: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/30236817

I'm not overly sentimental, but I do find myself feeling awful about this. David Hookes a few years ago too. I didn't know either but I knew of them and respected them. So it hits home to me.

Marc-Vivien Foe as well. Didnt know him, and plenty die of heart failure each year. But its just a bit different when theres that element of familiarity involved IMO.

If Kun was killed on the field I would only expect City fans and players that knew him to be grief stricken, I would expect that and I would not bemoan it, that would be entirely reasonable, but I wouldnt expect a national outpouring of grief

Most people in Oz had never even heard of Phil Hughes before his death, I certainly hadn't, neither had my wife or sons as were not cricket fans

These RIP threads these days bring out the worst in people, and I'm not talking about the ones that are genuinely sad that someone has died.

How the hell can anyone complain about the test match being postponed? They are burying a teammate the day before it was due to start. I fucking despair sometimes.
