I'm gobsmacked by how overated Jones is on this thread, he's average at best and his best attribute seems to be he is English. If he signed for Stoke or Wigan nobody would say anything about it but because it's the rags everybody gets giddy. If this is the level of player United are in for these days then it's very happy days ahead for us blues.

Don't fool yourself. We have been talking about Jones here for a long time. Start with Ricster's thread on the up and coming stars, then check out the thread on Blackburn players. Check out the thread on Samba. This clearly is not a Man United induced disappointment.

I suspect you're right, I don't think we were in for him at all, certainly not seen any evidence that we were. Not panicking though, just feel we have missed a chance to go for a very very good young player.

I'm sure the club know what their doing. Every name on this forum is linked with everybody else. It's all guess work. I'm sure we'll get who we're after. Patience is all that's required

They also have Evans and Brown.

I reckon Evans has proved not good enough, Jones will go straight ahead of him in the pecking order. Brown is supposedly on his way out and Ferdinand is constantly injured and probably coming to the end of his career. Jones is only 19 and as you said, looks like him and Smalling will be their future. He won't mind being 3rd or 4th choice for a season at his age and he'll still get plenty of matches.

I really think everyone in the media has made light of the effect of losing VDS will have on the rags. He has been the absolute leader of that defence, even when vidic, rio and evra have played. Without him, or a goalkeeper of his tactical understanding, I reckon they will have some major problems, whenever Vidic isn't playing and some slight one's when he is.

The lad is an average player when it comes to top level European football, I'm not saying he is shite but he is absolutely nothing special from what I have seen this season.
