Phil jones ?

I have to say I am a bit disappointed with the news about Phil Jones to Man United. I would have thought that we would try our best to bring in young British players to Man City. All people seem to be bothered about on this forum are the world-class names and the rest of the world, no consideration of the British prospects whatsoever, most of them may not be good, some of them may not be at the standard that you all want yet a British core makes the team appear local and fighters. We have Joe Hart and Micah Richards one player whom everyone was criticising this time last year, the rest of the youngish ones are linked away from our club in the news articles, so I would have thought we would have been in for players like Phil Jones but obviously not. At the end of the day I will be happy with whoever we get, but I would prefer some good British youngsters who can develop at our team, become a success and play regularly sometime in the near future. We seem to be often linked with Gary Cahill 6 or 7 years older than Phil Jones and people don't rate him either, I don't understand how you can come to the conclusion that he isn't good enough yet other top clubs in the division are linked with him too.

Future England centre back pairing Smalling and Jones I reckon. Good prospects

Sincerely hope our scouting network and coaches etc have seen something that I haven't, looks a great prospect and talent and will be twice the player someone like Smalling could ever hope to become (imo ofcourse).

I'm gobsmacked by how overated Jones is on this thread, he's average at best and his best attribute seems to be he is English. If he signed for Stoke or Wigan nobody would say anything about it but because it's the rags everybody gets giddy. If this is the level of player United are in for these days then it's very happy days ahead for us blues.
Don't fool yourself. We have been talking about Jones here for a long time. Start with Ricster's thread on the up and coming stars, then check out the thread on Blackburn players. Check out the thread on Samba. This clearly is not a Man United induced disappointment.
I bet Barcelona are glad United didn't have him in the Champions League Final, see my point?

The lad is an average player when it comes to top level European football, I'm not saying he is shite but he is absolutely nothing special from what I have seen this season.

But they aren't signing him to go straight in as first choice, so unless vidic or ferdinand were injured he wouldn't have played against Barcelona. He's only 19, so no, he's not world class yet but give him a couple of years and I reckon there is a very good chance he'll be first choice for united and England and considered one of the best around. Only time will tell, I suppose but he looks excellent from what I have seen.

Since when have England been any good?

We have half a dozen or so England players in our squad now and the only one who is any good on a regular basis is Hart!

Lescott has had a good half a season.

Barry, Milner, SWP, AJ all average with the odd belter of a game thrown in.

I really dont see what the fascination is with buying home grown players. We have spent a fortune on them and hardly any have proven to be astute signings.

Give me a Kompany, Zabaleta, NDJ, Silva etc any day of the week!
