Phoenix Nights...

Best line ever. I love Phoenix Nights, and even if you don't like Peter Kay you can't deny the complete genius of this show. I was gutted when The Office took all the honours and awards. It wasn't a fucking patch on Phoenix Nights and Gervais is a ****.
Always say this, I reckon it's because it was northern and the tv people just didn't get it, but of a funny story for you, remember the "Things I'll do to you" line when he's taking the bird up stairs. Well about 6 years ago I attended a house fire, got off the pump it was a boiling hot day, as we approached the front door the smoke was billowing down the stairs out the front door (fire was in upstairs bedroom) as me and my mate were getting under air, I looked up and this bloke appears on a Stana chair lift coming down the stairs through the smoke to the front door, I turned to my mate and said "The things I'll do to you", we went upstairs and pissed ourselves laughing for about 5 mins while trying to put the fire out, funniest thing I've seen in years on the job. It turned out when the fire started he was downstairs got on his chair went upstairs to put the fire out couldn't do it and came back down all I had was an image of Brian Potter in my head, if he'd had said it went Woof I think I'd have fell over laughing.

Am surprised they managed to film an episode never mind a few series going off this

Piss funny.

'Hey mouth, there's a child's bike outside'

'Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans'

and the genius

'I'm getting the word................nonce!'

The humour definitely didn't just appeal to northerners though. I served in NI with a unit who recruited from the Kent area (lots of Gillingham lads!), and they fucking loved it. We used to have regular 'Phoenix Nights' nights in the Mess.

I probably watched it too much when it came out and watched the first few episodes a couple of weeks ago, still very funny even though I know everything that is coming. It's easy to slag Peter Kay off as a lot of comedians do, but Phoenix nights, Max and Paddy and car share were excellent TV I thought. I watched something recently where he mentioned he planned more Max and Paddy, but Paddy McGuiness was too busy with take me out...

I listen to the Angelos and Barry podcast, Barry is the creation of Alex Lowe who played Clinton Baptiste and again for me is very funny and I'd definitely recommend.

When Potter tries getting his licence back, Kenny Daglish snr gives evidence in court.

Judge " I have taken account, your glittering boxing career & undercover work in Vietnam"

for those with KODI/XBMC the 2 series are on UKTURK under the TV Shows playlist

Absolutely brilliant and endlessly quotable.

Loads already mentioned but particularly like the pub quiz one. "And you turn to me and say.....my love.....walking on the moon"

Glad they just stuck to 2 series with every episode being a classic. Same goes for The Office. Two of the greatest comedies of all time.

Shame everything else that Kay has done has been complete dog shit bar Car Share.

They filmed the Banana grove scene at Heaton Park social club, they invited the members to be extras, they got fed had free beer all day and got paid 50 quid, an ex girlfriends grandad is in the scene where Peter Kay is giving the burn baby burn speech, the look of bewilderment from the audience is genuine, they didn't have a clue what was going on.

My favourite episode is the one where Max and Paddy become hit men and are paid to kill a man with a Broom Handle Mauser but cannot go through with it.
And the other funny episode is when Max tells Paddy about his new girlfriend Tina (who is on the diminutive side) and Paddy asks is she a dwarf ?
To which Max replies that Tina is not a dwarf, but she is "a kind of midget".
And Paddy replies- "She sounds like a Queen song"!!!!!
