I'm not sure whether i'm having an early midlife crisis or not and the Mrs say's it's rather gay but a couple of months back whilst out on my bike, I decided I wanted a new 'hobby'. Bought myself a Canon 650d and have started to really enjoy snapping lots of different subjects, mainly buildings of interest.

Anyone else into photography? amateur or pro..

After some recommendations of books etc to help me to the next level

The best investment now is Adobe Lightroom and start taking pictures in RAW format, post production then opens up a world of possibilities... Not read through the thread so sorry if already posted

You sure can.... v4.0 currently ;-)

I've been interested in photography for years and have built up quite a high-end Canon setup, but if I was starting to learn photography today, I'd buy a Fuji x100s ... awesome little camera.

EDIT: I have a lightly used Canon 7D body going cheap, if anyone's interested. I'm in Manchester at the mo :-)

Another amateur photographer here! I would definitely second the recommendation to shoot in RAW & get yourself a decent editing program like Lightroom. If you do, there are gazillions of good tutorials to be found, including many directly from Adobe:
<a class="postlink" href="http://tv.adobe.com/channel/how-to/lightroom-tutorials/show/recently-added/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://tv.adobe.com/channel/how-to/ligh ... tly-added/</a>

This is a useful website for anyone beginning to get their head around the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and focal length <a class="postlink" href="http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator/</a>

My site: <a class="postlink" href="http://thespiralquirk.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://thespiralquirk.com</a>

EDITED TO ADD "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is a good, easily digestible book. It's 'old' - 2004 - but the principles haven't changed. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/books/dp/0817463003" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/books/dp/0817463003</a>

Some amazing shots there, I can not believe the clarity and the detail you can get. Also, the depth of field makes some of the shots look like they are in 3d.

I have been recommended Lightroom before, is it easy to use?

Thanks for the compliment, much appreciated :)

I think that if you've got even a basic understanding of post- processing, LR is pretty simple to get to grips with - which is not to say that there isn't plenty more to learn as you go along! I would suggest lining up a few tutorial videos; take a look at some simple "before you start" info (eg <a class="postlink" href="http://shuttermonks.com/lightroom-basics-tutorial/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://shuttermonks.com/lightroom-basics-tutorial/</a> or <a class="postlink" href="http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/03/30/adobe-lightroom-basics-6-things-you-need-to-know-getting-started/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/ ... g-started/</a>) and then download the trial version (full features) and play with it yourself. I think the trial lasts for 30 days.

Of course I'm serious, if someone wants to put a picture up of something they have taken, I will find a better picture of the same thing using google images, without leaving my chair.

Go on then...
