Phrases once common you rarely hear today

This thread is really interesting because it is all about experience and perspective. A lot of the sayings I still hear regularly.

I had the radio on recently and caught some of Steptoe & Son. What’s interesting about these radio shows, circa 1972, is that they are re-recordings of the scripts of the original TV shows from the 60s. And all the bad language has been cut out of them. I know this because one of the nostalgia TV channels sometimes shows the original black-and-white Steptoes, swearing and all.
Anyway, what struck me was that most of the swearing, which so offended Mary Whitehouse, now seems old-fashioned and has disappeared from the public vocabulary. Does anyone ever call someone “you silly bleeder” anymore? Or exclaim “sodding hell!”? There is a rich vein here, I think, of once offensive terms that have disappeared from use because more offensive terms have become more acceptable, or at least, more widespread.
