I stand corrected, but I'm 99.9% sure the lad fronting the Luton player is Pat Berry from Levenshulme. Apologies if it isn't. Pat was a proper........ and was well known around Levenshulme at the time. He was a few years older than me. TBH you didn't mess with him.

They were perfectly entitled to celebrate missing out on being relegated. Would you have celebrated less on May 13th if QPR had been relegated that day? Of course you wouldn't.

It's a ridiculous suit I'll grant you but the lads that were confronting Paul Elliot were equally absurdly dressed. It was the eighties for fuck's sake.

That said, there was one Luton player that day who was goading the city fans endlessly. Some guy with a beard. I think "Who" was his surname, or something like that. I wonder what became of him....

The issue in the Luton game wasn't just about celebrating. Paul Elliott stood in front of the Kippax gesturing that we were down. Unfortunately for him he didn't see the mob behind him that had just come out of the Platt Lane. He end up in the in the back of the net and got a twatting for his trouble. Fair play to him though, when interviewed he said he deserved it.

It was a spontaneous outpouring of desperation. You had to be there to understand. It was the worse day ever at Maine Road and nothing since, including lots of last minute goals from the rags, has ever got close to the anguish we all felt. I still hate David Pleat to this day.

Was just going to mention that. Little shitty kiosk - they used to get robbed and abused all the time.

Look in the first pic. There's a lad just stood on the roof of the refreshment kiosk watching the game with his hands in his pocket while it all kicks off. Was a different game back then.

The first two pictures at Blackpool do not look like a riot to me. I remember jumping over that kiosk at a night league cup match around 77/78 to get in the City end. I would say that is the City end where people are queing at the kiosk and suggest it is perhaps City fans jumping over to get in our end. I dont remember Blackpool fans ever being in our end. Also the police looked fairly relaxed in those pictures. I could be wrong.

It was ultimately a riot mate. City fans ran across the pitch into the home sections and dismantled half the roof on the paddock.
