That is correct. We used to change the water when we could no longer see the fish. Didn't do him any harm.

The main thing to remember is not to use water straight out of the tap. Rain water is best but tap water should only be used if it's boiled first (and allowed to cool!!) otherwise the fluoride kills the fish.

We had a goldfish that one of the kids got from a fair that lived 11 years in spite of the cat doing its best to stick its paw in the goldfish bowl any opportunity it could get. It was almost white when it finally floated to the surface and stopped moving.

I can beat that, I had one which lived to be 21 years old, lost an eye and was renamed Nelson (for obvious reasons). Got me in the local rag, god I was a handsome chap
