Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Disappointing if true, but will wait for the announcement before giving up on this one.

Shame if true. The 2 signings I thought would make most improvement to us are Laporte and Aubameyang. The 2 signings to make the least difference Nolito and Stones.

Stones isn't a cert either!

Would argue Gundogan will make a bigger difference than them all though.

Probably just because neither of them is worth the fee being asked, I am sure if it was the right price for the right player we would have no problem doing it IMO.

You might well be right. Why do you think we would be so averse to breaking the record? We will get shit in the media no matter what we do in the transfer market IMO.

Aubamayang isn't really a Pogba situation where the valuation is crazy in comparison with what effect he has on matches. Auba's probably the best centre forward not currently at Madrid or Barca (with maybe the exception of Lewandoswki). Granted he's not 22 but 65 million pounds isn't at all crazy when we paid 55 for KDB, and nearly 50 for Raheem. Strikes me that the club seem to be applying an element of principle to this rather than and kind of financial prudence. But it's just me guessing. Fuck knows we could turn around and drop 180 million on Neymar next month!

See this is where I agree with you in what I was trying to say the other day

To me he is worth the money.....we all know the market is inflated but there is little we can do about it.

And this is where Im struggling with the idea that we are being prudent when we are about to spend (reportedly 40m on "potential" with Sane and yet (if the rumours are true) not spend 65m on Aubamayang. Aubamayang improves us without question....there is no certainty Sane will (If nolito is an option rather than Navas then I would say Nolito from an attacking perspective will and he looks also to have the tenacity to defend which is the bit that Navas is good at)

Griezman wanted to stay, don't think he needed transfer rumors to get a new deal moreso repaying him for he loyalty.

We're there any other sources that said the Auba deal was off beside the Italian journalist who made up the story and then said it wasn't happening?

I don't know.

There has been very little positive on him since the initial report (none of the ITK's know anything about it other than his representatives have been to the club).....some of the ITK's (not sure who) said he was open to the move but thats about it.

Looking at it from his perspective Im not sure why he wouldn't come: more competitive league, probably higher wages, dortmund being stripped of their best players year on year by the likes of us , munich etc and a chance to work under Pep. But then again, Im just an average person. God knows how some of these footballers think...they live in a completely different world I guess

Jeremy from the mcfc subreddit did say 'No' about aubameyang... not been very hopeful since. i think we could do with a goal scorer with pace up top though

Many a true word spoken in jest Billy. Over the last few weeks its struck me that we've been in for a lot of players and yet have been very strict in not overpaying for any of them. We all know that there are a fair few positions that we need to improve on but that Pep will have been given an enormous budget or frankly he wouldn't have come. I think we're trying to do business and being quite successful (Gundogan and Nolito) with one eye on a mega deal that probably won't see fruition until the end of the window. Pogba was silly money but the vibe coming from the club was that we wouldn't pay that sort of money for HIM. I'm thinking that there is somebody (I don't know who) that we would be prepared to spend silly money on.

Let's be honest, we are all guessing! I think when push comes to shove in July/August and Pep wants his squad sorted we will do what it takes to get him who he wants. I don't think Pep is the type to demand one marquee signing after another but I do think at least one will require us to break our record and probably the British record.

If he had come he wouldn't have been an automatic choice for up top, Aguero would. Maybe that's why his or our or both our interest cooled. Possibly we indicated he would have been played as a wider forward than he fancied.
To be honest I think we will be much better off with a goal scoring wide player than is capable of a more central role when required. That said Pep is a fan of a false 9 whether it's a winger or midfielder in the role so not having Aguero or Iheanacho available for any games wouldn't faze him if he has the right midfielders / wide players to work with.
