Overall I agree with that. My gut feeling though is that City don't want to be seen to break the British transfer record the rags hold for Di Maria unless it's for basically Messi. Not sure we will go that far for any other player potentially on the market this summer.
As much as I would like us to sign Aubameyang I can't help thinking there are other areas of the squad that would need a new face more urgently. I hope we will bring in a marquee signing for the midfield and do something for our fullback situation.
Not sure why we wouldn't want to break the transfer record, if it seems like the necessary thing to do to get a player we want i.e. if the price is right. What I'm sure we don't want is to get into a contest with the Rags for the dubious honour of setting that record. Knowing the Rags, they'll probably go and break any record we set as quickly as they can. I don't doubt that we are trying to get away from being seen as a club that will pay over the odds and setting those records may not help that but the market is such that we are going to have to pay some hefty fees for the sorts of players we need.
