PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Setting aside the substantive issues — impossible, I know — it is very fascinating to watch Pep's presser here. It is quite distinct from most others.
He quite often comes across as irritated and a bit bored. You get the definite impression that he'd much rather be on the training ground, working with his players on the tiny details that obsess him so much.
He knows that the journalists are going to do their dance, they'll try to draw him out on tactics, he'll do his dance, saying as little as possible about that; if they can get a controversial soundbite out of him, preferably critical of a player or manager, so much the better, something that can be reframed by an editor or sub-editor so as to sound embittered or rattled — he knows that dance too, he'll fend them off as best he can.
In the post-match, the dance will be to get him to comment on decisions that were marginal. Especially if we lost. The journalists themselves are a bit bored with the dance because we win so often. It's no fun.
It's part of the job at a big club, he knows that, he's been around the block. But he doesn't much enjoy it.
Right from the start this time, he knows very well what's going to happen, and he's clearly prepared his communicational game plan. The stakes are on a whole different level and he's well aware of it. He's taking his time to choose his words carefully. He doesn't always do that. What he has to say comes over as considered, grave even. It comes over as an exercise in contained indignation. It is firm, unwavering, strikes exactly the right tone at this particular point.
Pep's talked quite a lot about players' body language in recent times. I will admit that I haven't always understood his tactics in that.
Look carefully at his body language here.
I'll admit I thought he'd be much briefer, much more reined in.
Truly, one of his best performances as a communicator.

This thing about the over inflated sponsorship deal. At the time it was signed, it probably was inflated, but surely the time period involved and full figure took into account that during that contract period, the value and exposure of the club would increase exponentially and therefore make the deal over the time period be appropriate.

I would follow Pep Guardiola through the very gates of hell.

I am happy to admit that watching snippets of the press conference has left me feeling extremely emotional. That might sound ridiculous for a middle aged man to say about a bleeding press conference but after the shockingly unfair events of this week, coupled with the body language of Pep for the last few weeks I really felt the end of his time here was near.

Not so.

For a man who was born thousands of miles from here to come out so eloquently, so passionately, and with such righteous anger swinging at our enemies so professionally and successfully in full public glare was very special.
And it was needed. Today, now, more than ever before.

This man is one of us. This man has instilled a much-needed boost to my spirits today.

The hacks came to that press conference to bury their Caesar. And instead they had their arses handed to them. As did the old money clubs and hangers on that they so gleefully represent.

I’ve been upset this week, very upset, as all I could think about was my dad and how glad I am that he isn’t here to witness the attempted destruction of his club. It’s been properly horrible and distressing.
I needed today. We all needed today. I think the players needed today.

I just cannot put into words to admiration and, yes, I’ll say it, the love I have for this man.

We needed him today. We really really needed him and he didn’t go missing.
He marched out to the hordes awaiting his destruction and stuck out his chin and told them all what the score really was.

When we win this the emotions will have to be very special to beat the lift that today has given me.

He’s one of us in every sense of the word.

Great post and mirrors my reaction, without the love and bawling Obvs

I didn't bother reading the money league report in Jan but I see the usuals are out in force, making out it's proof of cheating.

City are 1st place overall again but yet again people aren't being honest when they say City's commercial revenue is the highest. City are 3rd place behind PSG and Bayern(neither of which are bigger than Real or United). Tottenham somehow have a higher commercial revenue than Arsenal. "This cannot be cos Arsenal are way bigger innit". Is that proof they are all cheating too? Both Real and Barca aren't doing as well commercially as you'd expect, maybe just maybe that says more about Spanish football though...

Seems like Nick Harris has at least spotted what a bellend he made of himself in his reactions to last years report. Worded it a lot more carefully this time. Pointless even trying to get through to them on the rest of it I suppose.

I wonder how much of this got sign off from the bosses. Especially the bits that go after the other clubs.

some balloon, who is probably crying in his stevie g pjs, im laughing at the lot of em, Ive been on a wartime footing since these ridiculous accusations landed on us, ready for battle & now hearing Pep echo my sentiments makes me love the bloke even more & hopefully it’s galvanised some of our fanbase who felt sorry for themselves, there’s simply only one way to handle this witch-hunt, it’s stand tall, stand strong with a stiff upper lip & fight back fight for our club for our team our manager our fellow fans our officials behind the scenes, it’s on!!
