Which is why our minds are bombarded and filled with crap to prevent us from learning and expressing ourselves.
Beer and circuses.
Clearly, people like you (and, I hope me) see right through it, and are not distracted by the bread and circuses created for our distraction.
In the real real world, the Premier League doesn’t lay a glove on Mansour lest the Govt. feel the reflected wrath of such a petty, vindictive decision.
Do I like sport being treated that way? Absolutely not! However, a small handful of charges of nonsense repeated 8 times to make it some major crime? That’s even bigger bullshit than the Govt warning off the PL!
FFP is, and always has been, a literal word salad joke, a restraint of trade, and a completely fabricated “business” model that ignores good business practices in favor of allowing entrenched companies to receive outsized rewards and opportunities. It ignores basic reasoning and comprehension of both the game as it is and how the game became this way.
At the eleventh hour, simply because their Old ECA World Order was under threat, those “old” clubs sought to legislate exclusion for their own financial benefit, while ignoring the business reality of what they were trying to create.
Football is built NOT on a model of strength and sustainability, but TV revenues and the ancillary advertising revenues that TV exposure creates. Massive multinationals pay billions to advertise before, during and after games, the TV companies and the Leagues gladly accept those dollars, and the showcase continues to pump billions of dollars around in that circle…
Multinational -> UEFA/PL -> Club
The biggest flaw in the system is that the multinationals control the whole thing and without them it doesn’t exist. They only do it because the eyes that are willing to watch it create the revenue that helps everyone make money.
Create a system where you spoil the spectacle, either by extension far beyond the exceptional teams that create the exceptional product, or simple corruption of the product in how you decide who will and will not participate, and the Golden Goose stops laying its Golden Eggs and the whole system collapses due to lack of ad revenue.
We have all seen what “bigger, better, more” has created, but dare not imagine the reversal of fortune, both literally and figuratively.
Ironically, City are probably the team best suited for survival in such a world: No debt, deep pocketed global investors, and a global club system that has the ability to continue to run solely on local revenues in all places EXCEPT Manchester. Even then, we have none of the debt service problems of others, which means long-term sustainability is not only easier, but in an “outrun the bear” model, we are streets ahead of the slowest runners in the pack!
