PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I had a flashback to Clubcall in the late 80s there. He basically spent eight minutes saying pretty much nothing.
Although my memory it very flaky - I think that was that the premium rate fans call in - when mobile phones were pretty new?

I remember being pissed (early 90s) and staying in the Britannia - called that when in bed - woke up about 6 hours later to hear it still going on!!!!

That call must have cost a fortune

We were charged after the investigation, not before. It's now been passed to the panel where we can submit our evidence and defence and they then consider everything.

we are charged but my understanding is that the panel to consider the evidence is yet to be selected.

There’s nothing for a panel to do until our recent challenge against the legitimacy of any charges against us, on rule breaches where the rules were not in force at the time is resolved.

This has been imaginatively described by posters on here as the fairness in ‘retrospectively being done for driving 10mph over the speed limit at 40mph on a road years before the speed limit was changed to 30mph.’

My understanding also is (may be wrong) that any decision on our challenge on this retrospective use of charges by the FA could be appealed upwards.

This is why the process currently has no defined timeline and could take years.

0891 121191 I recall. Blew some of my employers money on this crazy line. ’news coming ladies and gentleman on a signing that a bloke told me he had heard from a reliable source…. Stay on the line’

So are the panel assessing the investigation first? Or are they waiting for our evidence?

Only surely it’s possible the investigation was flawed….

The process, afaik, is investigation, then findings, then punishment if the findings are accepted. If they aren't accepted there is an "independent" panel to review evidence for and against and determine any applicable punishment. Then there is a right to appeal on certain issues to another "independent" panel with a final right of appeal on certain limited matters to a tribunal of three members, one chosen by each party and the third jointly chosen.

On the issue of why City and no-one else, it's the incriminating leaked emails, nothing else. Once UEFA opened an investigation, the PL had to as well.

All imho.

Yes, used to ring it on mum and dad’s phone to listen to some bloke keep me hanging on the line about some exciting news coming at the end of the bulletin that never failed to disappoint. I kept falling for it though!

Wasn't it something crazy like a £1 per min

Glad it was a company mobile - but for months I kept expecting to be 'called into the office"

This is exactly my understanding. I took the time to re read some of the articles relating to our charges and the legal appeal we lodged in May. I am no expert but our appeal seems to be based on the process itself and the make up of the independent panel. City are prepared to take their challenge on these issues all the way to the Supreme Court, this is before the panel is even chosen and starts reviewing the charges and our evidence . Originally it was quoted the extraordinary nature of the charges could take 2-4 years for a judgement to be reached, however, I think this can only start after City’s legal challenges have been dealt with. Hence are we looking at in advance of 2-4 years or even decades? Maybe the legal eagles can confirm.
I would suspect the club want to make this as lengthy and costly to the Premier League as possible, making it more likely the politics will change and the Premier League will reach a settlement that’s agreeable to City.

The way the Premier League screwed up the initial charges suggests they were spooked into action by the forthcoming government white paper on football and the red shirt bastards. I recall reading ahead of the charges that the Premier League was not geared up for such an investigation, well they made their choice and now they can face year upon year of mounting costs. meanwhile the 115 shit will lose all relevance, especially as the architects of our expected demise are up to their necks in shit themselves. Sit back and relax. In the words of the great George Harrison all things must pass.
