PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Only speculating. Maybe I am giving the premier too much credit.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility?

City used as a political football. Repetitional damage is a unfortunate consequence. The league know throwing about financial accusations may cause trouble between the UAE & the UK. Stoping the gov regulation before it comes into force.

As I say, maybe its too far fetched. We all agree that the league has no evidence against the club. Yes they are doing the bidding of a certain few clubs who don’t like competing for honours but maybe other issues are also present.

Looking forward to all the salty tears from other fans, and also all the scummy media wankers. What’s not to like

Bob on. Numerous posters have speculated that the investigation would eventually involve a political/ macro economic angle and it’s staggering that any clear thinker would imagine that this Is questionable. I bet that the charges and the slurs against the integrity of our owners has been the subject of high level discussions since announcement.

And no surprise. Setting aside reputation and honour (a major issue in itself), consider the financial hole the UK finds itself in, think who has financial firepower, track record and willingness to invest in the UK. And then consider the damage the fallout from what many see as a istry club driven, kangaroo court investigation could do to UK PLC.

The political economic stakes are enormous. In 2021 it was announced that the UAE-UK SIP would commit £10 billion, overseen by the OfI and Mubadala. This supplemented Mubadala’s £800m / UK Government’s £200m life sciences partnership. We all understand the connection between our owners and Mubadala.

The gvmt are absolutely right to ask questions. Can you imagine the fallout if they did not …..and subsequently the Prem investigation (and not a legitimate legal institution) concluded that our owners were cheating bastards when set against questionable and opaque Prem Handbook standards and massive investment in the UK was undermined?

It could be argued that the gvmt are actually doing the job they were elected to do, namely looking after the best interests of the country and its citizens.
Make a nice change.

Yeah, but if the Abu Dhabi Government contacted the British government [where does it say that? The headline states that the Foreign Office in London has spoken to our own Embassy in Abu Dhabi, not the Abu Dhabi Government], in order to influence an ongoing investigation or to make it go away, then that doesn't look very good, does it? [if that was what is being alleged, then no it wouldn’t look good, but, erm, that isn’t being alleged is it?! There’s no mention of the Abu Dhabi Government contacting anyone, and of course the FO is in contact with our Embassy about it, cos there’ll likely be fucking mayhem out there if the Kangaroo Court hands down a guilty verdict].

Especially if we are adamant that City are not state owned, so why is the Abu Dhabi government getting involved in a football matter? [for a 3rd time, it isn’t, but even if it were, it would hardly be an unmerited surprise. The PL, as pressurised by the usual red suspects, is calling out the deputy Prime Minister and the brother of the country’s leader as crooks. I would think they’d be pretty fucking angry about that and want answers from the Government of the country in which the PL operates, aka the usual diplomatic channels.]

If the intention was to have their day in court, you wouldn't be knocking on the door of number 10, as some people on here have mentioned, threatening to cancel Billions of investment.

If that is the case, then the charges have to have some merit. [Really? The Court Rooms of the world are littered with the corpses of those who naively thought that getting in front of a judge and having ‘their say‘ would be enough to ascertain a not guilty verdict. It’s a cut throat business and you take every chance you can get to lever things your way, innocent or guilty.]

Lest we forget.

It’s far more likely that the government has put a stop to the info being released. It’ll be nothing to do with us.
I know that’s my point. Releasing or not releasing isn’t in our hands. And even though the government has refused so far doesn’t mean they won’t be compelled to after an appeal.

So hopefully City have learned lessons from the past and not put anything in an email that could be used against us.
