PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Hey lads, Wrexham fan here - go easy! Like you, we're high on everyone's agenda since we came into some well deserved investment and attention. Jealousy is a huge part of daily life. Looking at Citys case though, do none of you believe you've never done anything wrong or is it just a huge conspiracy borne out of jealousy and envy? And if found guilty, what kind of punishment are you expecting? Cheers.
Jealousy from who because whenever I hear your club mentioned weather on tv or radio every fucker is blowing smoke up your arse

Yes, I thought someone else had said that here, but didn't know who/where. It's inconceivable that they wouldn't have asked everyone.

If they happened, the whole "City collude with minister in secret meeting" is laid bare as tosh and the whole thing dies.

It's the Telegraph though, and may be complicated by the takeover wrangle that's going on at the moment.
I think it was followed up in The Telegraph, but don't have time to deal with a paywall, so here's the same info on Yahoo:

"City are understood to be among a host of clubs and sporting organisations to have met with Andrew, the sports minister, and other DCMS figures to discuss a proposed independent regulator."

I think Scott's name has only really appeared in discussions here in the last few days - he's the one behind the FOI about City reps meeting a sports minister.

The implication he draws is that no-one else had a meeting with them (over a regulator? that sounds highly unlikely that they'd only talk to one club), and that the lack of details implies a dodgy deal. It presumably wasn't a public meeting, so I'm not sure why the details would become known - maybe when the discussion of the regulator bill in Parliament happens there will be some details.

So:
- did the minister talk to other clubs, or offer talks with other clubs?
- is there any factual reason to believe that anything untoward was discussed?

As with the Spiegel emails, there needs to be context to understand better what happened, and Scott has sensationalised one aspect (as far as I am aware, I may be wrong).
The Minister talked to several other clubs & football stakeholders from across the spectrum & all the leagues.

Granted, Scott made it sound like City held a grubby backdoor meeting, where no one else did, which is blatantly untrue, as the Minister quoted when interviewed.

I think Westminster are getting a feeling of what City have had to endure, & I doubt this Red Top & Spuds protectionism is playing well with them, ESPECIALLY as it previously threatened a £10bn investment in the UK from Abu Dhabi.

I imagine all of the criticism about how long the process is taking, from fans, pundits and journalists alike, must be stinging the PL. As mentioned previously, it’s causing considerable reputational damage to them now. Are they really going to try and ride it out for the next 18 months?

I guess the only way they could plausibly expedite the process would be to drop some of the harder to prove charges or try and strike a deal, but that seems highly improbable. Not even sure if that’s possible now that it’s been referred to an independent commission?! What a mess they’ve got themselves into.
It's a mess isn't it. The fact that "115" has become a rallying cry is directly a result of their poor comms. They could have just announced that the PL was investigating and charging City on historical irregularities, that it would take several years to complete, and have left it there. I suspect they thought they were being "neutral" but it backfired massively for them.

The takeover wrangle where Abu Dhabi provided the finance? ;-)

The mail saying that this fella Omar has nothing to do with the charges hanging over city lol. He was directly involved in sponsorships coming onboard.

This is a fucking national paper. The absolute shit they spout is on another level.

We all know the charges are bullshit and this move to the rags inadvertently proves it. Lying pricks who have driven hate towards every city fan.
Our fans are vilified at every opportunity by some of the press and loads of supporters of other clubs, yet some of our senior executives are completely innocent? Makes sense.

You sum up how a lot of us feel. Great post.

I have total trust that our owners have done nothing wrong and hope that we get a fair hearing but I am far from sure that we will. KC or no KCs. I wish we could just enjoy the achievements of our great club but we are being denied that by corrupt, greedy, dishonest individuals from the Redshirts, Tottenham and their shills in positions of power.
I thoroughly enjoy our success , the hate towards our club is generated by jealousy and envy , all success stories will have their fair share of vitriol . The charges are just a tool to justify the dislike of our club nothing more , nothing less , the Rags were hated by many us included during their succesful period but there wasnt bollocks like FFP about then to muddy the waters.
Stick your chest out and wear your shirt with pride this amazing period of success will not last forever.

Indeed - that one!

In the same way that others (Murdoch group) are against this option, it's quite likely that there are some Telegraph people against it too and who are happy to smear the buyers.
It's been pointed out to the Tories that previous Telegraph owner Conrad Black was a convicted fraudster, & the son of a former KGB agent, Evgeny Lebedev, was allowed to own the Independent and the Evening Standard.

I think the issue with the sale of the Torygraph to an Abu Dhabi backed consortium, are the Tories don't want to see the erosion of their right wing media powerbase.

If Sheikh Mansour was Trump, Orban or Bolsonaro, they'd probably give him a grant to help with the purchase. ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯
