PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Far too many on this thread need to do the following:
• stop buying newspapers
• listen to music on the radio instead of talkSPORT
• Stay off twitter.
• No podcasts.

Honestly it’ll be better for your health, sit back and let the most well organised and best run club in world football handle it.
It’s a fair point. Gave up papers and Talksport long ago. Twitter is also full of attention seekers.

Football thought should be enjoyed so it grates that a total sports media blackout is necessary. But never mind.

If I could ask @projectriver one question it would be does the fact that CAS found us largely innocent count for anything with the PL panel when they look at the same charges? If not why not?
Doesn’t count for much aside from gave them a dry run albeit with less documents. But the principles and difficult of proving the case for the PL is as hard on this one as it was for UEFA

The baying mob has been enlivened by the recent ruling by the PL with regards to Everton. The stupids are speculating what will happen to City mostly based on no knowledge.

Interesting thought though, if City were guilty or there was at least a small chance we were going to receive a heavy sanction I would expect the following to have happened or be happening...

1. Haaland would not have signed for us.
2. Haaland would have asked to leave.
3. As above for other players.
4. Pep would have left.
5. Sponsors would be running for the hills.
6. We would have put stadium investment on hold.
7. Our performances would have dropped off.

In reality, the complete opposite has happened. Ignore the stupids on social media. Look at what's happening at City. City know what they have done in the past and what they going to do in the future. I believe in these guys, not some numb skulls on social media desperate for more likes and more followers.

Come on City!
Haaland signed for us before the charges, if we get a hefty sentence he will be off just like pep will be off as well, everything we have built could come tumbling down. Let's hope we come out this okay but I keep swinging between two mind sets regarding all of this one minute I think we're going to be fucked bad then I see something on here that makes me think otherwise. Let's hope we come out of it okay.

Oh dear, where do you even start with opinions like this?

When your 2nd sentence, with its 3 complete bollox lies, means you can stop reading at that point.
1. ‘The guilt’ - nope ‘no evidence’ x umpteen times
2. ‘CAS let them off’ - nope ‘no evidence’ x umpteen times
3. ‘Time barred’ - yes , a single part of it, but CAS themselves said though it was, they would have rejected it as well.

How you can be so wrong on facts in 14 words is incredible.

You need a pint or two...or 10...

Should've stuck with swales

I agree with the first two and disagree with the latter two.

Twitter is what you make of it. You can easily ignore most of the noise.

Podcasts are so varied. Ignore the obvious ones and there’s a wealth of information out there.

Didn't put this word in about the charges!?

>irrefutable<

adjective

Impossible to refute or disprove; incontrovertible.
"irrefutable arguments; irrefutable evidence of guilt."
Incapable of being refuted or disproved; indisputable.
Similar: indisputable
Undeniable; unable to be disproved or refuted.

My thoughts are on this are very simple. I just dont see how the prem are going to come out of this victorious. They are accusing several layers here of fraud and deceit, it just doesn't add up.

Silverlake, PWC, City, CFG, Khaldoon, Sheikh Mansour and everyone in between are all complicit in covering up fraud on the scale the premier league are accusing of us. I just don't buy it.

There is no coincidence this list of charges was released the day before the Gov was about to release its report into advocating for an independent regulatory body in the prem.

The charge list was full of mistakes and edited several times, they had their pals in the media parroting on all platforms and its quickly gripped thousands of no nothing fans of other clubs who are seemingly believing the premier league are completely correct with this but will at the same time call the premier league every name under the sun if a decision goes against them and accuse them of VAR corruption and everything else.
One thing that really concerned me about this rush to get the charges out, was that Martin Ziegler already had the details and had penned an article within minutes of the announcement.

One of the things that crops up a lot on this thread is the fact that the club has a top legal team headed up by Lord Pannick and for quite a few there is an assumption that they will wipe the floor with the PL team. Unfortunately, the PL are spending whatever it takes and @projectriver reckons their legal team is headed up by Adam Lewis KC, as he was for the Everton case. He is at the top of the pile like Pannick and they also use Linklaters, a world class law firm.

Forget any notion (in my view) that we will outspend the PL. They will also have an unlimited amount to throw at this, including effectively some of our money :( It will come down to evidence or lack of rather than one side throwing more at it than the other.

I never listen to him anyway. Jordan and Jim White simply arnt that good. Both are clearly trying too hard to be controversial and I don't find it entertaining. Jordan comes across as a know it all who actually doesnt know much in reality.
The talk sport presenters I quite like to listen to are McCoist, Gabby Ablongahore and Andy Goldstein.

Yeah despite being a Cockney red I actually quite like Goldstein. He's a good sport and amusing in a way - not nasty or vitriolic towards City despite his dodgy taste.

Another matter for the incoming Regulator to note and establish how that happened.

They will have a top team, make no mistake.

It was always a laughable notion that the PL wouldn’t be able to afford a legal team every bit as strong as ours.

What's important to understand is most of opposition fans commenting have no idea as to what the charges are, how they are constructed nor the challenge that any panel has of proving the core charge, which is fraud on an industrial scale potentially involving major auditors such as KPMG and Deloittes and everybody in between. They are ignorant and as we are all with our respective clubs, tribal, so desperate for us to be shafted. Of the 5 charges of which the multiples round up to the total 115. 30 are for none cooperation as was the case with CAS. This I suspect they will get us on, but that is procedural and would be a hefty fine as it has nothing to do with the financials. About 8 are in relation to Mancinis contract. Small amounts of money and hard to prove the contract he had with Al Jazeera was a front. Some relate to contract signed by youth players = Minor breach. The rump of the charges relate to inflated sponsorship deals and in the main the charges heard by and dismissed by CAS as there was no evidence, which comes back to the problem the commission has. The burden of proof sits with them and needs to be clear, cogent and convincing evidence. Proof by clear, cogent, and convincing evidence means that the element must be proved by evidence that carries greater weight and is more convincing than a preponderance of evidence. The bar is incredibly high and why City I suspect are so confident. Also, if the PL had compelling evidence of wrong doing, why have they not referred is to the Serious Fraud Office ? The reason is that they don't have a smoking gun. They believe they have grounds to charge just as City will have evidence to counter such charges and unless the commission are sure it can prove above and beyond the balance of probabilities so as not to be overturned on appeal. One final point, the PL lead KC is Adam Lewis, a sports Lawyer. City's lead is Lord Pannick who is one of the UK's most renowned KC's and a speciality in commercial law. They BOTH work for Blackstone Chambers. I wouldn't be surpised with a case as complex as this, which could drag on for years with over a million documents to work through, there are not 'discussions ' as to how to progress this case. Either way, I suspect it could be at least a year to sort, we will be slapped with a fine for none co operation as we will have drip fed the information to control the flow and prepare our defence and I suspect a points deduction if they manage to make 'some' charges to stick. Personally I think the PL have made a huge mistake looking to bring so many charges, many of which they probably know won't be proven. They should have concentrated on where the 'evidence' was stronger. All that said, when anybody tells me City have cheated, my response is the same and said with a broad smile. We ain't cheated on the pitch which is where I watch football. Pep,Sergio, KDB et al have never cheated. Winds em up a treat. CITD
