Places to eat near the ground

If you're taking your lad just go to City Square for the atmos when I suggested the Rice Bowl I thought you were entertaining.
Yes, if it's a young lad, City square will be good, and we're supposedly supposed to arrive early tomorrow for the unveiling of the stand.
There's food there that should keep him reasonably happy, and more opportunity to make City memories taking in the build up.
Just in case you don't know, City Square is between the club shop and the stadium (north end). All very sensible behaviour, nice atmosphere etc.
I'd recommend walking up Joe Mercer way as it's a lovely approach to the ground, but might be worth walking around to the South Stand to take a look at it from the outside (and pass the main entrance along the way). Good way to pass some time for a younger fan and I think I'd be excited by all that as a kid.

the Italian up the road is looking favourite, city square, no thanks, probably cheaper in the restaurant, thanks for the suggestions.

no, taking my son (16) to his first game for over 7 years
So unless he's a big girls blouse a Tony's Chippy and Mary D combo is the 'right answer'

Order Sausage Chips Onion Gravy (actually gravy with raw onions in it) - all in polystyrene tray topped off with a bucket of salt - and then sneak round the side of Mary D's and upstairs into the SC Room for a less raucous experience

Agree with all of that except downstairs for Mary d's ;-)

Not sure how you'd get upstairs in Mary's if you're not a SC member; there's usually a steward or two on the stairs checking for ID.

Raw onions and a polystyrene tray or Italian restaurant, hmm decisions decisions.....

I wouldn't eat ANYWHERE off Trip Advisor reviews

Especially if it's a small place with hardly any reviews.

They just review theirselves to get to the top of the list.

Get to the Northern Quarter

El Capo for a Mexican or Home Sweet Home for Burgers etc. Plenty of blues round there pre match as well!

Try Bruno's Dellicatezze up the road from the ground towards Ashton as the tram lines cross the road just there. You may get in if you go early. Absolute fab place and not expensive. Check on Trip Advisor. 100s of reviews.

I've found it good around Europe, you do have to spend some time looking for the "tells" mind

What's the green like ? Thinking of going with my nephew once we get into Manchester

Any suggestions, i'm taking a V.I.P (personal) to the match with me tomorrow and was hoping to eat before the game locally but with road works on east lancs and mancunian way i'm looking at getting to the ground early and eating somewhere nearby. Not looking for anything expensive/sophisticated, pub grub type stuff, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There are 2 family friendly pubs in Woodhouses near Failsworth which both have large beer gardens, and serve food. Woodhouses is about a 10-15 minute drive to the Etihad, and lots of City fans use this route to get to and from the match. The pubs are the Woodhouse Gardens, and the Dog and Partridge. Woodhouses is like a little upmarket village with one road running through the middle. It has a golf club, a cricket club, and there is even an Italian restaurant at the northern end of the road next to Daisy Nook country park.
Food wise I would say the Woodhouse Gardens is better but the beer garden at the Dog and Partridge is larger, and the beer choice is better. Google them, and have a look.

In fairness the 16 year old in me wouldnt be arsed about going for a decent feed if the alternative was chippy lunch then my dad take me for a few pre match beers
