Plane crash - Chapecoense FC - Awarded Copa Sudamericana - first game back today. P25

Cheers for that, incredibly sad for all involved. You obviously know your planes mate, are many fitted with ram air turbines in case of engine/power failure? As a mechanical engineer in a completely different sector (no nothing about aeronautics) it's something i've always wondered.
Some aircraft are fitted with RATs, but not the RJ85. The electrical system on the RJ (and all aircraft) is designed to tolerate numerous failures without causing it to crash. That's why I doubt it was the main cause unless it caused an onboard fire but there's been no suggestion of that. There's not much a pilot can do if it runs out of fuel though except try and glide to a runway.

i know nothing about flying aeroplanes
(other than when i was young my uncle worked at filton and let me sit in the cockpit of a concorde)
and this may be a stupid question,
but why would the pilot have made this final manoeuvre if he was running out of fuel?

Thought I read somewhere they crashed 22 miles before arrival..sad any way you look at it. RIP and prayers to all who are impacted

One theory is that the pilot may have been focusing on resolving a minor technical issue before carrying out his approach and failed to address a more serious fuel issue.

focusing on what, for example?
presumably there is a device that warns you when you are low on fuel, even cars have them.
i don't understand why he would suddenly veer left and then do a sharp full circle before crashing.

I watch a lot of the air crash investigation on Discovery and there was a similar accident . The pilot and his co pilot were so engrossed with a minor alarm going off, which was alien to their training, that they didn't realise the alarms going off telling them they were out of fuel

Would doing that loop left him short of fuel if he was on his limits ?

That loop was a holding pattern. It would be quite normal to go into a holding pattern to resolve an issue before landing.
Yes there are warning indications when you're low on fuel, but maybe the pilots were fixated on resolving another issue, which could have been anything. It's all speculation at the moment and will all come out in the investigation. The data recorded on the flight recorders should identify the cause fairly quickly.

Reports circulating on social media that PSG have offered to donate up to £40m to the stricken club. If true then that's unprecedented.
