Player of the Year: KDB v Salah

I’m not going to argue he shouldn’t be discussed for the award. I’m arguing if you take his goals out of the equation - what else has he done for his team? KDB has scored, assisted, tackled, tracked back and been a leader in a team full of standout players, his overall contribution has meant his team has one trophy in the bag and at least one to follow. Salah will win the GB, did Sergio win POTY when he won the GB? Kante won it and only scored two goals.

Arguably Salah has done all those things also to varying degrees reflective of his role in the team.

He has the same number of assists as Silva and more than Mahrez and everytime I have watched him he has always put a shift in and liverpools relative success this year has been based on the high press he is integral too.

Just because he is top scorer does not mean he cannot be in contention for player of the year and not sure why Aguero not winning it should disclude him.

Personally I think KDB has been incredible and fingers crossed he will win it but, if not, for me Salah would also be a worthy winner.

If the criteria is scoring the most goals in a season? I thought that would be obvious!
Tevez also won a GB with us but didn’t win POTY. I’ll say it again if you’re struggling - the top goal scorer doesn’t automatically mean POTY, if it did Sergio and Carlos would’ve picked up the award when they both won the GB.
I suppose it’d be good to see the GB winners list alongside the POTY winners.
Didn’t Suárez win both awards when Liverpool last won the league? Pretty sure Toure could’ve quite easily have won it with 20 goals from midfield and a colossus performance for us all season. Seems a bit of a pattern there, obviously it’s just a freak coincidence. If our players/managers can’t win it when we win titles then I’m not sure what our lads can do?

I think Otamendi has been. Do you think him or someone else?
Ederson

I want Silva to win City POTY though, just for what he’s been through and still been our best player in a lot of games

Who thinks the golden boot winner should automatically mean player of the year? But if his performances warrant it then the two are not mutually exclusive.

Player of the year to me should go to, the player of the year not based on which team has won trophies. If that is KDB I will be delighted but if not Mo Salah would be a deserved winner.

You are correct though a lot of top scorers do win it. Possibly this is a reflection that those who play the game recognise the art of goalscoring it as one of the most difficult arts?

If there was an award for best team in Manchester who play in blue and have a Spanish manager, we still wouldn’t win it. As several others have said, we will have to console ourselves with actual trophies :)
