Player thread: Dedryck Boyata (2013/14)

That shocking red against arsenal has ruined him I think. Until then he was looking a confident and promising young cb. His confidence looks shot to pieces which is a shame as I had high hopes for him after his initial burst in the team.

That's one of several instances I think. If Mancini had set out to destroy him he couldn't have done a better job. If you look at Boyata's appearence record, he'd play v someone like Hull in the Auto Windsceeens Shield (exageration but you get the point), then not get a game for two months, then straight in v Utd in a Cup semi final at the swamp, dropped, Barlsley or somebody, then dropped, Juventus, dropped started v Arsenal, sent off, dropped. Just thrown in for one two games at the most then kicked out for weeks on end. Then asked to play in a huge game & blamed for everything afterwards. Then farmed out into a relegation battle, then sent abroad.

It was an absolute scandal the way he was treated as a kid. If we did that with the kids we have now, not many would be confident prospects in a year's time.

He was so indecisive as soon as the pressure came on last game, you can see he's still not confident enough to assert himself. Great pity because he could be exactly what we need if he could get over that, but it looks like he won't.

Would you say in the odd game he gets chucked in for he has let city down ? As ALL our other centrehalves have at some point this season.
Been paired up with no regular partner the lad does very well in my opinion

Think playing centre half is probably the one position where you play your own game and have to form a good understanding of what your partners game is about.
If dedryck had played 6 games on the bounce with the same partner it would be fair to judge him.I would imagine In the few games he's played he's played with all the other three and done a job for us .

Three months since a post about Dedryck, kinda some his time with us up.

Nothing at all against the lad but I really feel for his own benefit, he needs to go this summer. He could easily play week in week out for a Championship side or in an overseas league. Only through playing regular games will he ever improve and show his real potential. It's clear he's just here to make up the HG quota but bringing back Denayer or Rekik would achieve the same and they are both imo an upgrade as 4th choice CB and would potentially push for 3rd choice over the season.

Denayer won't be HG for another season (and that's dependant on what Dyke pushes through), Boyata though is more than just HG, he's club trained.
I can't see Rekik coming back and not playing after his time in Holland, I'd promote Denayer all day long.

Boyata knew the score when he signed his 2 year deal at the club. In the games he had played in this season he performed well enough. We won't get much for him but he can do a good job at most lower to mid table clubs imo.

But Denayer is too young to need to be HG, so it's irrelevant? I do wish people would stop using the phrase "quota" tbh, as it's entirely misleading and implies that it needs filling
