I don't know why there is so much fuss here. Fernando is exactly what was expected. Short passes to other CMs and tackling. His tackling hasn't fully caught up yet, but it will. The decision making on defense is there, the awareness is there, the blocking shot is there, the tackling and short passes are there, had just made some costly mistakes that can be down to newness.

This is what he was supposed to be. Why are people complaining? As in, what were you expecting?

Spot on Dax.
Well it would be if he could do any of the above to a decent level. All those traits are ones in which he's been wanting so far. That's why he's getting criticism. When his tackling has "caught up", when his decision making on the defence is there, his awareness, his blocking shots and passing are up to scratch, that's when he'll be given credit.

A player who can kick a ball forward once in a while.
Then I hope you weren't one of those who was pinning for Fernando in the summer.

I'd never heard of him till just before we signed him.

Fernando was signed as an improvement over Garcia , but after 20 odd games , he has not proved he is any better , he needs more time , unfortunately it is in short supply with the chavs boring their way to the top of the league . Our priority has to be a world class defensive midfielder next season not a £10m player , we will have to spend good money , although i would have DeJong back in a heart beat , and he is on a free transfer in the summer

Any better?
He's the inverse image. Pace but nothing else.
Give me Garcia any day of the week.

Anyone who thinks this guy is any good must have raved at the Emperor's new clothes and thought that Hughes would come good for us.
Fernando is just an out of control speed boat, Honestly, it's like playing with 10 men every game he starts. From watching games I know he's shit and when you analyses the stats they confirm he's shit.
Win %: Fernando starting: 53% - Fernando NOT starting: 78%.
Loss %: Fernando starting: 23% - Fernando not starting: 0%
Draw %: Fernando starting: 23% Fernando not starting: 22%
Here are the joker's Squawker stats:
"http://www.squawka.com/players/fernando-reges/stats#performance-score#manchester-city-(current)#english-barclays-premier-league#8#season-2014/2015#126#all-matches#1-25#by-match"
(Sorry, it won't convert to a URL recognise by the Bluemoon page software URL tag.)
He was pretty poor against Stoke as well - easily our worst midfielder.
The stats simply back up what I see with my own eyes every time I watch him play.
Quite simply he is extraordinarily poor.

Credit where credit is due, he was quality last night and much better than Dinho ! apart from the first 30 mins where no one played well !

Except he wasn't.

The opening 30 mins is the only part of the match I am interested in re Fernando because we were under pressure and this is where a defensive midfielder is supposed to show his worth. He was as anonymous as ever. Doesn't win tackles, doesn't win headers, doesn't close down the space and his default position is always 10 yards deeper than he should be, He has the positional awareness of a traffic cone! For their goal he lost Crouch twice and look who he has decided to mark when the cross comes in............Mangala. For those opening 30 mins he was making Nzonzi look like Yaya!

We dominated for the rest of the game and he was able to go back to his usual anonymous self, playing as a 3rd centre back and taking no part in the game whatsoever.

This guy has no discernible positive impact on any game, ever.

Fernandinho misplaced a few passes and made a few dodgy decisions but at least he wants the ball and he was heavily involved in a lot of our attacking play.

With Yayas return Fernando shouldn't kick a ball for this club again!

Great post. Thought by his own standards he wasn't too bad in the second half at Stoke, but the problem is his own standards are so poor that it's really not saying much.

I don't like slagging players off while they are wearing a City shirt , but I have to agree with this.
When he was here , Garcia was slated by many for being too defensive and woefully slow. He was slow , but similarly , so was Barry , but they both compensated for this by having a good "footballing" brain, and an ability to read the game better than most .Garcia's movement was limited but , I think , more efficient than Fernando's ,and I think that team mates actually had more confidence in Garcia . Fernando , I fear , is an impressive athlete , but really not a very good footballer.
I think we may have made a bit of a mistake with this transfer, based on what we've seen so far, but let's wait and give the lad a chance before we completely write him off.

Didnt garcia only become (half) decent in his 2nd season? Yet fernando isnt offered the same luxury by those on here. Let the guy learn the league and adapt, and judge him next year. Also, ofcourse hes useless against the likes of stoke, Middlesbrough, shef weds, burnley etc. Its games such as barcelona he was bought for. Sit him behind yaya and fernandinho and you get the best out of him

Letting Barry go was a huge balls up on so many levels: financially, regarding the HG quota and the most important, performances on the pitch.

Garcia played 30+ times last season in all comps and wasn't up to the level Barry was for us, and now this clown has cost us £12m, can't pass forward and his reading of the game can only be described dyslexic.

In Txiki's/fat Ferran/Pellegrini we trust? If it wasn't for the pre-three amigos signings papering over the cracks, the flawed project would have unravelled much sooner, and as that Marwood/Cook/Mancini assembled generation ages/is prematurely discarded it will be exposed for exactly how amateurish it really is.

How Soriano still has a job after walking us straight into a £50m FFP fine last summer is beyond me, in addition to spending so much on the squad without the recruits actually becoming key players. These guys are taking us for a ride, and it's a shame that it's taking so long for people who genuinely care about the club to realise it.

More garbage from this new keyboard warrior.
