Player thread: Gael Clichy (2014/15)

Re: Gael Clichy

Had a big game yesteday, he wasn't really playing against anyone but glad he got a goal having faced a lot of criticism recently. Consistent starts seems to be paying off for everyone now, once Silva is back there is no need to further tinker with this team for every single game.

That's two on the trot because he was great against Bayern too.
Three, he was good against Swansea as well. His best three games for us for me.

I'd add the rags to that list, and also his performance down at the Arse. Perhaps not as bad as he's often made out to be then

His defending can be a bit inconsistent and there are times when opponents seem to go by him too easily but when he is on form and being aggressive I'd rather have him than Kolarov as a defender.

Re: Gael Clichy

Excellent again yesterday, did a very good job of keeping arguably their best player quiet. Much as he did against Bayern and the rags.
He's not been anywhere near as bad as was being made out previously, either - couple of very poor games (West ham, CSKA at home), but no more than most of the squad, really. Just a bit of an easy target for criticism.

I don't buy the line that a new left-back should be a priority. Sure, we could find an improvement on him and/or Kolarov, but they've both proven that they are good enough to play regularly in title-winning teams. Signing a new left-back should be some way down the priority list, certainly below finding a proper wide attacking player and looking for an eventual replacement for Yaya.

That pass to set up aguero for the one on one chance was a beauty

that pass was massively overhit!

only looked good because forster stayed on his line instead of taking a few steps out of his box and clearing it

still had a cracking game mind

he was brilliant today to be fair, if he played like that most weeks he'd have his own song and be France's #1, let's hope this is the start of something rather than a rare occasion.

Class is Permanent. Form is temporary.
Any defender that has Robben in his pocket is WC.
Anytime our defense shutout MU in a Derby's win is.
Clichy is!

Imagine if we still have Wayne Bridge. :)
