Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

He was one of my favorite players. I would have loved keeping him over Navas because he has similar defensive contribution, better end product, more versatility and homegrown. However if you have a Spaniard that's happy to compete, you take him over the Englishman who knows he will be treated like Messi at another club.

As someone else mentioned, him going has nothing to do with Delph coming in, he was never close to taking a CM position for any long period (which could be the reason he left).

Watched his performance today and realised I had probably been viewing him through blue tinted spectacles when he was here. Didn't want him to go at the time but he is definitely better off being at Liverpool, he'd be further away from the first team now than he was last season. Good luck trying to get in the Ch 5 Cup Jimmy, your time of medals and playing with the likes of Silva and Aguero are long gone, enjoy playing with a Toure because your days playing with the quality of Yaya are now confined to history. That said, he was a consummate professional whilst he was here and didn't like United so I'll never dislike the kid.

He was good for us. Playing with players well above his ability helped pull his own ability up at times. He's was needed in a squad which needed players like him to be competitive and win titles.

Thanks for th service, thanks for the role you played in one of our most successful eras and may your time at Liverpool be filled with mediocrity.

Dont understand how he was professional. He lied about renewing his contract saying it was all about the playing time he received. So he was given the playing time, a lot more than any other season, and runs down his contract for a big fat signing on fee. The guy is a ****

I think some of the comments on here are a bit harsh on Milner. Yes he won medals but it must have pissed him off to be overlooked in both the FA Cup final and in particular the CO cup final. He didn't even come on as a sub in either. He got zero minutes in the QPR game and 14 minutes in the West Ham title win game.

He always gave his all for us despite his obvious limited ability.

Is his joining Liverpool any different from Sagna joining us?
