PLEASE READ ALL OF IT BEFORE COMMENTING.. This is an adamant defense of an undervalued player..
Ever since Nasri left Arsenal, abuse has reigned down on him in amounts I don't think he was ready for. Soon after the media started searching for ways to make him look bad, and sky sports has a hard-on for criticizing everything he does.
Then the Euro championships came along, and he got man of the match in the first game but was then made a dumb gesture to the media, which young people are prone to do sometimes. Usually it would be forgotten, but instead it was somehow made the focus of everything that went wrong for France in the next games. So now he has his own country's people and media bashing him into the ground as well.
Then he comes back and has a great start to the season for us, but gets injured, and then comes back playing great and gets suspended, and then comes back and the Man U incident happens. At this point even his OWN club's fans are bashing him.
Clearly he made some mistakes in this time period, but wow did he really deserve literally everyone criticizing and abusing him. The guy couldn't tweet without getting a thousand insults in response.
At this point, he had every reason to just take his money and ask to move on to some lower club.. but he didn't. He came back in the last 2 months, and fought to be one of our best players, and it continued into America and now in South Africa.
What is my point? I'm sick of people calling him a shithouse and a coward. Yeah he's done some stupid crap, but he has gotten an extraordinary amount of abuse for someone who isn't exactly attacking anyone else? The kid is just prideful like most people in the world. But he didn't give up on this club, did he? He's here and he is clearly fighting to prove himself and to help this team. He didn't have to do that. He could have easily left and ran from the abuse, but he chose to stand up and be counted, and I think that takes some serious mental strength.
Also, sometimes people don't like the things he says, but I find his take on things quite refreshing. He is always honest and candid about what is happening and how he feels. He doesn't blame other people for his problems, and he knows what he has to do to improve. Anyone who doesn't believe me should read his Times interview from last year.. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=283513 He is intelligent, and he LOVES football.
I'm sorry for this ridiculously long defense, but I've thought about this from time to time so I guess I just spewed it all out. I really hope people will get behind Nasri, because when he feels love and support.. that is when he is at his best. And he is honestly a joy to watch when confident and flowing, and he could do BIG things for us if we just give him some support!
I appreciate the point you are making, it is very well put together and you do have a huge point, from my point of view when he joined us he started very good, linked up well with Dzeko but he always looked like he was in the shadows a bit, like Mancini wasn't playing him to his best potential, I've always been a big fan of James Milner anyway and he was similar to Nasri as he also joined for a big fee and did get some stick in his first season but he fired back from it and now I wouldn't replace the guy with anyone in the world, he is a 100 % committed professional and he is always dedicated to the club whether its from the starting line-up, the bench anywhere, he is what I would describe as a work horse with tremendous attitude and determination and with a fantastic right foot aswell, back to Nasri though I think he enjoyed a good first season, maybe he wasn't as amazing as he was at Arsenal in that 2010/11 season but he tried hard and I think many thought he would be the final piece in the jigsaw for us, he could have done better but like I said earlier it looked as if Mancini wasn't playing him freely enough, when I watched him for Arsenal he was breathtaking, running from all areas of the pitch particularly on the left wing, taking the ball past players with tremendous ease.
The season after I like many others got a bit disappointed, most of the club didn't play that well that season lets be honest, only a few I can think of where consistently playing well and it didn't help with a few of our own panick buys in the window (Garcia, Maicon, Sinclair to name a few) I was always pretty critical of him myself, he didn't look like he wanted to be there at times and I don't remember seeing him do much at all during that season, Silva was pretty similar aswell in the sense he didn't do much that season but most of us admittedly could forgive him because he had come off of the back of two fantastic seasons overall and he was probably shattered after the Euros with Spain and the heavy fixture list, plus not to mention they're both completely different players obviously. So anyway he wasn't having a completely great season anyway, and even though some people where stating we were unbeaten at home until the United game which I can't bear to think about to this day, but he stuck his leg out and got the blame, or as others have stated, scapegoated, there were many times after that where he irritated me and my dad was very critical of him aswell I remember especially after the united incident and sometimes still is lol, but anyway he wasn't playing with confidence and there were games where the game would pass him by and then most people would feel like it was his fault we weren't doing well, I remember thinking at the end of the season that I really wanted him to leave, I wasn't personally happy with his contribution and it seemed like his Arsenal days were long gone.
I couldn't have been more wrong to be honest, this season he has really taken the bull by the horns and now I don't think anyone could question his commitment, he has won motm a few times and I remember games in-particular where he has really shone out especially in the 4-1 thrashing of United, and he has been at the heart of our so far impressive champions league campaign aswell, the thing I am most impressed with his all 4 of our attacking midfielders/wingers are doing their part and there is something uniquely special about each of them like Nasri is skillful and is great at getting past players and playing players in, whereas Silva is like a tiny magician, he is great at turning and he has the touch of an angel plus he can find a pass from almost anywhere, then you have Milner who may be unfortunate to have not started more but when he has started or came off the bench he has always had a major impact notably in the 3-2 win against Bayern at the Allianz, then you have our great new addition Navas who reminds me a lot of one of my favourite players Shaun Wright-Phillips, small quick, dynamite on the ball and is brilliant at getting to the byline. So anyway Nasri has impressed me a lot this season, I would like to say to him keep up the good work and he deserves great credit for his improved form.
