Goes beyond that, I think - the media/the pundits also decide who winds up as player of the year etc. Scotty Parker anyone? Or the year Giggs won it despite being nowhere close to being one of their best/most important players.

Amazing how on the back of this particular performance against Villa there has been such a sudden ground swell of praise for Silva. He didn't do anything different to that which he has been doing consistently for the past four years, but all it took is for one pundit to highlight just how good he is, and now everyone is falling over themselves to say the same.

If we go on and win the league, I wouldn't be surprised if - on the back of the praise that he got at the weekend and the inevitable reverberations that will have in the press generally - Silva wins player of year.

Difference being in comparison to Parker and Giggs, of course, that he will almost certainly be deserving of the award.

David Silva is one of those players who come along once in a life time up there along side Colin Bell, his performance at Villa was awesome when he is in this sort of form City look a complete side with confidence to burn long may he continue to wear the sky blue

Has he picked up an injury tonight. Says he was subbed off for Spain in 44th min? To go off a minute before ht is worrying?

No injury. Took him off on 70 mins for a forward as Spain are 1-0 down.

Glad they did. A few tasty tackles going in from Slovakia.

in the 44th minute he picked a yellow for a fault..was subbed in the 71th minute with Paco Alcacer who scored their goal..so no injury to him which is what matters
