You can hold the opinion (albeit wrong) that kinky was better than Silva, it's the fact that he feels the need to come out with snide comments every time somebody rightly posts on here to praise him. If he doesn't enjoy the genius that is Silva he doesn't enjoy football.
Spot on. He doesn't like/rate Silva. Fine. He's entitled to his deluded opinion. Not sure why he feels the need to express it on a thread with the thread title that this one has. He is wumming though Bill; he knows how people on here feel about Silva, yet he deliberately comes on here to say something he knows will get posters' backs up.

step back a moment jim. look at his age, a lot younger than us. when gio was here he was at his most impressionable football wise. that is some baptism. bell and silva ARE the best players city have had....but that's in our timeline. other will say joe hayes, peter Doherty and the list goes on. All that said there are players yet to arrive that who knows may just eclipse what even us old fuckers have seen.

jack though is a strange one and he wont mind me saying. you lot just foe him and all will be well.
Nah, I'm 37 and loved Gio as well. In no way does that have any bearing on watching Silva right now. Like I said, having a personal preference is all about opinions and I'd never have a go at someone for that alone.
The need to try a justify that preference on this thread is where the problem lies. He's that entrenched in his view that he must sit watching the game hoping Silva misplaces a pass or doesn't score a worldie. It must surely stop his enjoyment of the game as 9 times out of 10 the man is brilliant.

I wouldn't have a clue what age he is Bill; I've never met him. But age is not necessarily an excuse. You were saying that the poster was at "his most impressionable age football wise" when Kinky was here; I'm assuming he was a teenager back then (mid 90s, nearly 20 years ago) so he'd be in his 30s now. So he's no kid. You also brought up Doherty and Hayes; the diference is I wouldn't (couldn't) argue with anyone who nominated them as I never saw them play. Anyway, in the spirit of Christmas, I won't respond directly to the poster again. As for the best ever City players, I'd go with the two you named; Bell was always my top blue that I had seen, but Merlin is pushing him very close now. The lad is a joy to watch. If he can up his goal tally (and he certainly has the skill to do it; remember Hull last season, or WHU this season?), he'll be up there with the King.

Re: David Silva appreciation thread

Why is anyone even attempting to engage in a debate about whether Kinkladze, benchwarmer for a second tier club in his prime, is even in the same league as World Cup, European Championship, multiple Premier League winner Silva?

It's akin to musing whether me or Jack74 has a better command of the English language.

The answer's Jack btw

Re: David Silva appreciation thread

I take it this is just another thread that has a WUM in it just to keep the posts ticking over

Kinkladze was an 'easy on the eye' footballer that did some magical things

But even at his best he doesn't come anywhere near Silva

He's literally remarkable. He's out for six weeks, comes back and it takes him about 20 minutes to get back to his very best.

I've only see clips and the occasional video on Bell but I simply can't see how he was as good as Silva. Silva is the best player I've seen in terms of productivity, consistency and domination of a football game.

Both of them at their peak; I'd still have to go for the King, but there's fuck all in it between them. If I had to single out one factor that would put Bell above Merlin, it would be their respective goalscoring records. Bell was the more prolific goalscorer, simple as that. If you were looking at their skill levels, I'd say Merlin is the more skillful of the two. But they're two totally different types of players. Bell was like an earlier version of *spit* Bryan Robson. He was a box to box type midfielder. We're blessed to have had both of them at our club.

Re: David Silva appreciation thread

Bell was simply amazing. But for all I know, Peter Doherty might have been better still.

At this time, we have David Silva, and we are very lucky. He is an astounding talent.
