There has to be something in both the coaching and the scouting. Who has been going to watch Mangala and then reporting back that he looks comfortable on the ball; because frankly I've never seen anyone so scared of a football in my life.
We bought Jerome Boateng who couldn't get a game at centre half who left and won the Champions League.
Players come to us and look like world beaters then after a few weeks of our coaching, look like they should be playing Sunday league let alone champions league.

To be fair Mangala only looked like a world beater for one game. Yesterday's own goal was on a par with the howler at Hull.

His form beginning of the season was great, opinions where why sign Otamendi. The original deal we strike was for Mangala to go on loan to Valencia and Denyer to make up the 4 and I assume Mangala to come back and replace Demi. Didn't see at the time but would have been a great call in hindsight.

True. But I'm talking more about people like Bony, Negrado, Nasri and potentially KdB. Look world class and then come to the club and the wheels fall off.

Somebody must have watched Mangala for some time and viewed the way he plays with the ball at his feet positively to get a move sanctioned.

The thing that depresses me the most is that we have good players and let them go; then bring in inferior players, paying massively over the odds in the process. Fernando for De Jong, Mangala for Lescott, Bony for Negrado, etc etc

I think De Bruyne started so well that his drop off in form has been more evident. His stats are still very impressive so far. I would dispute that Bony and Negredo have ever been world class. Nasri hasn't been as good as I expected but has had his moments.

I have no problems with the decision to move Lescott on and the other two wanted to go I think. The replacements haven't been stunning though, especially Mangala.

I don't have any issue with moving these players on; as long as we then buy more superior replacements. Particularly if we are paying vast sums of money for them.

The issue is; we don't do that. In fact I would argue that the squad hasn't improved since the season we bought Toure, Silva, etc.

Bony may not have ever been world class but he looked a far better player than he does right now.

I actually thought Demichelis was worse than Mangala.

He didn't look right when the players came together for the French anthem, I do wonder whether he should have been playing as the weeks events looked to me like they had had an effect on both Sagna and Mangala (and I don't think they'd be human if they didn't). Injuries meant that there was little choice though.

The other thing I would mention is with him not being mentally the strongest, at least not yet, I imagine the fact he started playing well and
lost his place when Otamendi came meant he put additional pressure on himself when he did, which had a negative effect.

He needs someone vocal next to him. Either Kompany or Otamendi have to start every game for me. Alongside either of them, I think Mangala is fine and his potential is still there. Far too early to make a definitive judgement, particularly in such an open attacking side as ourselves.

We could have bought Alderweireld for 1/3 of the price! Or just kept Nastasic who was basically bombed out after far fewer poorer games than Mangala

Mangala will be fine for City, he has strength and conviction in the tackle and a nice, quick pass through to the midfield to boot that many City fans recognise, a few iffy performances shouldn't disguise that, he has a lot of promise and produced excellent performances already.
