I loved how he wasn't arsed when Costa confronted him too. Just laughed in his face, and clearly wasn't buying into any of his "hard man" bullshit. Someone genuinely hard doesn't go to ground and moan at referees that easily. He seemed less keen on taking up the issue at half time when Mangala stepped in.

For me it was one of those challenges where you see red cards given, but equally you see yellows given too, as you did yesterday. The litmus test is, if the ref had missed the challenge totally, would we be seeing Fernandinho up on a charge of violent conduct, or serious foul play, today? I seriously doubt it, so no red card. Costa is a playground bully, throws himself around, leaves his foot in, acts hard, however if it came down to it my money would be on Mangala all day long, quiet, unassuming, but big, powerful and, one suspects, deadly!

Love this fucking dude. Makes us tick. Quick feet, gets the ball moves it on quickly. Why the fuck did he spend so much time in the Ukraine. FFS

Taylor of the Gaurdian hit the nail on the head when he tweeted we had a striker playing football and trying to score goals for 90 mins whilst hey had one throwing himself to the floor trying to win free kicks.

Personally thought a yellow was harsh as he is jumping for the ball and every single player does so with arms and elbows in the air. It was not a swinging arm or deliberate.

After a indifferent season last season so far we are seeing the best of Fernandhino so far in a City shirt. Strong as a ox fighting for every ball and playing it simple. I feel sorry for Delph as his injury has come at the wrong time. He will be doing well to break into the team with how well both Yaya and Fernandhino have started the season.

I alway think instances like yesterday's are really difficult to call. To me it's not an elbow, it's a player leading with his arm (as everybody does to a certain extent when they jump) and that's different to a deliberate, and violent, elbow the way Fellaini goes about his business. Maybe Fernandinho did see an opportunity to remind Costa that he wasn't going to be intimidated by him, but Shearer was correct when he said that, as an aggressive centre forward you have to be prepared to take it when you give it out. Interesting that both Shearer and Guillet thought it was a definite red but Graham Poll thought it was reckless rather than violent and a good decision by Atkinson.

Costa slapped Ferny around the head just before the aerial clash as well as the one from the corner which everyone seemed to miss. A little bit of pay back from Ferny
