I heard that he started a one or two games there but I assumed that he was just covering injuries.

The club have dropped a bollock if they have willingly let him go out on loan to a club who are not going to play him in his proper position.
That's a total over-reaction on your part mate. Playing different positions will develop him, make him more tactically aware. Plus Pep likes versatile players. It's another string to his bow.

I'd love to see him given a go as defensive mid, he's certainly comfortable enough on the ball.

I seem to recollect that Samaras became a living legend in Scotland but not quite so in England. It is a huge step up to the PL. It is also more difficult for anyone playing CB. If Iheanacho misses a sitter no one will mind particularly if Aguero gets a couple and we win. If a young centre back makes a mistake and costs us the game then he will get a lot of criticism from some. Best to get good experience playing competitively at a slightly lower level first. There is no rush and we can be patient. I would think it fairly obvious the decision was taken collectively by the club and not just by Pellegrini and would not be the least bit surprised if the same decision would be taken today.

What is actually the situation with Denayer? Is he still injured, and if yes when is he expected to be back?

I haven't seen nearly enough of him but I see a few have mentioned him as a potential DM, anybody reckon they could see him be that lone 'pivot' Pep prefers in 4-3-3? ie the deepest most central?

Good point. I hear that's how we operate at many of the youth levels - the players playing a variety of positions for this reason and others. For Denayer to be able to get that experience at top-flight is a boon, and he spent last season as on of the best centre-backs, so it's not as 'playing all over the show' has been a consistent part of his loan-spells.

I just hope that it's not too late (in the Lopes, Suarez regard, where they want to leave before they get a proper chance,) and that's not a dig at our current club stance on youth. I understand that our first-team squad must take priority. We've got a lot of players to keep happy, we have aspirations to consistently dominate... we have to have grounded priorities. Nevertheless, there are consequences to our decisions and there's the possibility that we've missed one or two opportunities to promote potential.

So yeah, I hope Denayer is around long enough to become part of our fold. He looks to be a great talent from what little I've seen.
