Hi Sam663 ... I wasn't trying to defend the player, just the club. Buying lesser teams' best players has been a well trod path for player acquisition both here and in europe. It didn't work in this case but, if I remember correctly, the team needed goals at the time so here we are.How a one season wonder was PL proven? His performances in first half of the second season weren't exactly flattering. He was equipped to fit into a passing attack? Does that mean we thought he was suited to possession-based football? He was nothing more than a target man, helped by a very hard working side that moved the ball very wall.
At the start of the season I posted on the EDS Forum that given enough chances Kelechi will outshine Bony this season and would probably score at least 20 goals. Bony was never good enough for us and frankly our scouting has been piss poor.
Was he a 'one season wonder'? I can't say because, even though I watched a lot of Swansea when Laudrup (What a footballer he was! If ever there was a past 'great' to compare KDB to, it's him) was manager, I didn't watch every minute, nor have I seen anything of his time at Vitesse. That being said at Swansea he did have things to his game to like, like an excellent first touch, decent link up play and a thunderbolt of a shot. He just isn't going to work out for us or him. Hopefully the £20 mil offers being bandied about are legit because he's gone and Swansea, at least, are desperate enough.
Back to Kelechi ... maybe I am reading too much into it but his body language at Norwich looked more mature and less the gangly teenager trying to impress we saw in the summer tour. Hopefully we continue to manage his development into a top pro.
