Player Topic: Navas.....

I think that giving him a direct order, take Ronaldo ore messi out of this game ,ore pressing
in a special way nobody can do it like him, but not a starter to me......

I feel for him at times, he looks up and nobody takes a good position in the box. The lack of players committing themselves is a joke.

I love his industry and desire and the fact he never hides but his final ball/delivery/ability to beat a man/score himself is just not good enough 99% of the time.

Completely agree about having no one in the box but he could have several targets and more often than not would find the defender or turn back on himself and knock it back inside to whoever.

He is not alone as winger or full back in the same position does the exact same thing right now.

As I said yesterday, 2 more blocked crosses and he'd have broken his personal best for this (still a world record). Out of order MP for taking him off

That's a fair point, the problem for me is we don't play our percentages in the box the way United and Bayern do, they commit so many players in the box which causes problems, whereas with us everyone is waiting on the edge.

Like shooting, if you dont buy a ticket and get the ball in, you dont win the lottery so to speak.

Yet again yesterday we had a midfield that provided no link whatsoever between them and attack.

Defensively it was fine as there was zero threat from Norwich but going forward it was a car crash of a performance with players ducking any personal responsibility to make something happen as far as im concerned.

Pellers got it wrong in that Bony shouldn't have played and we could have gone 3 at the back, dominated midfield even more and committed players forward to help but still, we had so much possession in their final third and we did absolutely nothing with it.

He'll be gone in the summer. We need to start competing with Mardid/barca/Bayern and he wouldnt get anywhere near their first teams.

Bale/Ronaldo
Robben/Ribery/Costa
Neymar/Messi/Suarez (whichever one starts on the right)

Playing on the right wing or the right of midfield for an elite club should mean you're scoring at least 10 goals a season and assisting 15. He just isn't productive enough. I hear the Navas fans argue that he works hard and tracks back. Darius Vassell used to bloody do that. We need so much more from our wide players.

We do, you are right and on that basis alone, he needs to move on. Problem is he about number 7/8 on the list of players that need to be moved on so he may survive the cull.

Similar to Kolarov - he is what he is, a bang average £15million player. No point getting worked up about it, he's not a good player underperforming, he's not a good player!

That said, he's pretty good a tracking back

You know what you get with him. Lots of energy and effort, attacks with pace, stretches teams and works back diligently. This is his 3rd season so by now the other attackers should know his style and get across the near post as invariably that's where most of his crosses (the ones that aren't blocked by the full back) go to. Goal return is woeful though by any standards.

As the original 2015/16 thread is closed....

What a load of rubbish, total and utter waste of a shirt today.

Not blaming him for the failure to score, but Pelligrini for choosing him.

Do all you Navas worshippers now see what I've been seeing for the last two seasons? He is absolutely clueless and useless. A waste of a team place, why oh why does Pellegrini keep picking him? Has it anything to do with him keeping his word? It certainly isn't because he adds any value to the team!
Navas is 100% not anywhere near good enough to start for a team hoping to win the EPL on a consistent basis and to occasionally win the Champion's League.

But, I think he's good enough as a squad player.

When we need to rest our best players, Navas can start; he's massively fast and sometimes has a good game where his crosses are at least decent.

Unlike Madrid, Barca and Bayern, we cannot afford (due to FFP at least) to have world class players at every position along with near world-class players as backup.

I think that Navas can contribute as a squad player, subbing in as needed and starting when we need to rest our best.

On top of this, Navas seems to be a great team player - no controversy and always works extremely hard when played.

Watch Pep turn him into a world class right back.
