He isn't technical enough to play the role he's currently playing. Short passing, ball retention and creativity isn't his game and nor should it be.

We need to stop using him like that because frankly, he's not as good as KDB, Silva and Nasri in that role.

The problem is, defences sit so deep against us that there isn't much space in behind to play his natural game and use his pace.

That isn't going to change anytime soon so he really needs to improve the technical side of his game or he's in trouble.

I'd like to see him move about more, become a 2nd striker when Kun moves wide or deep and look for the ball in behind. He isn't doing that and it's his best chance of playing his game.

The only thing that worries me is that we make him 'too intelligent'... The Sterling at Liverpool dribbled a lot more. He ran at defences frequently. He's being a lot more Nasri-like for us. Keeping it simple. All very nice and stuff and i think he's done okay, but I do worry we'll stop him being the instinctive exciting player he is. If that goes then he's not what we needed at all...
Agreed - he needs to be more direct, either by taking his man on the outside more often or by making runs in the channel and giving Silva/KdB the option to slide a pass in for him, which has provided him with a few chances already this season. Part of Sterling's problem right now looks to me like a confidence issue, he looks nervous of trying anything.

I always thought KDB played naturally on the left so I've been a bit surprised by the way KDB was played on the right. I'm pretty sure we've seen Sterling in the past on the right plenty of times so this would work out better. I don't think there's anything very poor about Sterling's performance just needs to pass more than dribble so high up the pitch himself. His decision making will get better with age.

He's used to being the key player at Liverpool for a while but we have quality all over.

A bit consistent. He shows his superb natural talent at times and at times looks like a guy transitioning to a new team and new system. He's still incredibly young and will better with age.

Needs to take less touches and be on the move more. Navas has been dallying on it far too much but yesterday was playing the ball on his 1st or 2nd touch and look what happened.

I'd drop him for Navas for a while, with KDB on the left, and use him late in games until he realises what's required.

He's still young and adapting to our style so I'm still confident that he'll learn and be an important player for us.

He actually had far and away the best pass completion in our team yesterday and, although it could do with improving, his stats on that thus far this season are just above the team average. He has also shown some creativity in passing. However, he does need to run at people a bit more; I'd also like to see him have a go down the right, where I think he could do what Navas does.

What is apparent is that Sterling's confidence is not yet at the levels it needs to be. What is also fact is that he is a young man at a new club with a huge price tag on him; a pressure that has been exacerbated by media coverage and opposition supporters booing him. He needs time to settle in and he has time very much on his side and so long as he has / develops the right mental fortitude, he will do well for and at MCFC.
