Raheem Sterling will thrive and become a better player amid Manchester City’s star-studded squad, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has told talkSPORT.

The England winger angered Reds fans this summer by refusing to sign a new contract at Anfield and pushing through a £49m switch to the two-time Premier League champions.

Many questioned the hefty price tag slapped on the 20-year-old, as well as his ability to fight for a regular place in Manuel Pellegrini’s team.

But Sterling seems to have settled in quickly at his new club, scoring three goals in their pre-season campaign, including a neat debut strike against Roma.

And Kop hero Souness believes he will up his game at the Etihad Stadium - because he is surrounded by better players than his former Liverpool team-mates.

“If you’re spending £50million on a player today, they should be the finished article,” he told Drivetime.

“Raheem is not the finished article yet, he’s got a long way to go, but if you’re asking me to have a bet, I think he will be a star and it will work out for him at Man City.

“Generally, when you go and play with better players they drag you up a level.

So, with all due respect to the Liverpool players he left, I think he’s gone to a better group of players and he’ll be training with those players every day, so it should make him better as a result.”

Tbf Souness of all the pundits is the one who has consistently been the most "favourable" to us.
He is the only one with any objectivity.
Thierry Henry on the other hand never says anything good about us....

At the end of the season some enterprising YouTube video editor/producer will put together a 15 minute compilation video of just goals where the commentator screams "Sterling to Aguero... Goooaaal!"

Not concerned with his finishing at all. Finishing is usually a confidence thing. When you're in a team as shit as Liverpool's was last season negativity can't help but surround your whole game, so you snatch at chances, the crowd get on your back and you don't score for a while. He clearly *can* finish though, spectacularly well too, as we've seen in preseason and during games against City in the past. That'll just come with time and I genuinely believe he'll be a 15-20 goals and 15-20 assists a season man for us. Can't wait.

The goal he scored against the chavs in the League Cup last season was fantastic and it showed how good Raheem can be.

As others have said, playing regularly with teammates of the quality that we have will only improve his all-round game.

I am really excited by what Raheem Sterling will be bringing to Manchester City for the next few years and I can't wait to see him playing for us.
