You don't go from being the best center back in world football to a liability overnight. Unless he is just simply past his best which I hope is not the case because I can't imagine a City team without Kompany, he has been massive for us in 2 title wins not just with his performances on the pitch but as a leader off it and I would hate to think that is coming to an end.
Was he "the best"? No. Was it "overnight"? No. In what way did he lead off the pitch? Getting Zabba to switch to Imperial Leather?

If we didn't play as high of a line we would see a better Vinnie, it's already been said. And if there was better protection in front.

That, and I think Kompany looked at his sharpest when he looked a bit lighter, around the 2011 FA Cup win.

Gutted about Vinny at the moment and hope he comes back, he really does look a liability to me and seems to be trying to take more time on the ball than he needs as though saying " I've got it under control " and trying to appear cool on the ball, it's making things a lot worse as he's getting closed down and either getting tackled or rushing at the last minute and losing possession, hoping for a good season and at times going forward I think we will look awesome, but can't see us challenging for the league with our defence, I can't pick one defender who I think would get into Chelsea or Arsenals team

Zaba would get into Arsenal's if he's on form

Problem is, Zab was not particularly on form for much of last season. He kept getting skinned, badly. I know one thing — we can buy who we like, but if Vinny and Zab don't get back to something like their normal form, thatis, the form of 2011-12 and 2013-14, I think our chances of getting that champion's title back are very slim. To say nothing of going on to quarter-final, semi-final level in CL.

In that epic derby of April, 2012, I distinctly remember Vinny absolutely racing over to the wing, putting in a perfectly timed tackle, and simply stealing the ball off a rag's feet (can't remember who it was). Anybody able to get hold of a gif of that? It was the last ten minutes, I was as wired as I've ever been in my life. It symbolized everything about that match, and his utter determination to take the three points. And I'm not even going to talk about That Goal. By God but I'd like that man back…

My opinion is that the numerous injuries overtime have permanently hindered his overall athleticism abilities, i mean you can't deny that his pace, vertical jump and reaction timing went downhill since winter 2012.
Problem is, opposed to MDM, Kompany's A-game is based 90% upon athletic domination, if he hasn't got the power to physically bully his opponents anymore he is half the player he was at his peak, check-mate situation.

This is why players in the same mold as MDM usually have a very long successful career since their quality doesn't come from physical feats but rather from excellent tactical / position awareness and perfect timing.

If Kompany's best days are behind him, and imho it is definitely the situation, we should plan to scout for a promising young and "smart" cb to pair with Mangala the next seasons.
Varan would have been the perfect candidate, alas Real won't part with him for less than £50m, maybe more.

big season for big vinny, he knows hes got to improve on last year and no doubt he will. hope MP identifies who Vinnys CB partner should be and sticks to it for a period of time. Vinny still misses Lescott a man who he knew inside and out

Mangala and demi was our best pairing last year and he looked better with denayer when vinny went off yesterday,he is not the problem, vinny is
I agree with you Karen, and to be fair, I think many more are leaning that way. There will always be the hard core Vinnie supporters, who will look everywhere else for the problem.
