Player Topic: Wilfried Bony (2015/16)

We signed him last January when we played 4-4-2 regularly.

We then got our arse handed to us against United in March (I think) and promptly switched to 4-2-3-1. A lot of that time Wilf was injured and has barely played with Kun.

Unless, our plan was to change to a 4-2-3-1 all along which means it was an even more ridiculous decision to spend £28 million on him in the first place.

He's strong and can hold the ball up but less mobile than Negrado or Dzeko was. I always thought he would have been a good strike partner for Kun, ideal for 4-4-2, but we have shoved him in a system that does not suit his game at all. We can't blame the player for that.

It's no coincidence that his best game was against Bournemouth when Sterling was practically a second striker.

Is it a coincidence that Bournemouth are horrible defensively?

It could be but Bony has proved he is a good player at Swansea.

I just think playing him as a lone front man with Toure (who rarely runs ahead of him), KDB (who prefers the ball to feet) and Sterling (who looks frightened at the minute) is asking for trouble.

Aguero can do it because he has that pace and ability to beat a man. But Bony is not that type of player. Someone like Berahino, who is deceptively strong, and has pace would have been better suited to a back up for Kun.

I thought he did well in the first half but everything went against him in the second.

I don't think that we should under estimate how debilitating it must have been for him to contract malaria in the summer, effectively ruining his pre season.
