There has definitely been a change in direction in the acquisition of signing strikers amongst the big clubs. With the 4-2-3-1 being the default position clubs like ourselves, United, Chelsea, Arsenal all seem light in the striking department. Or what would have been considered light a few years ago.

I suppose the thought process behind signing Bony was he is used to playing upfront on his own, relatively injury free and has premiership experience.

26 million pounds seems a lot of money to sit on the bench but I suppose if you are going to have a squad with only two recognised strikers, you need to ensure the replacement has a certain pedigree as it is likely his services will be called upon.

Personally I would have liked a striker who could play in a number of positions where as Bony is really only going to slot in when Aguero is absent or we revert to a two. But then Im sure every club would want that type of player, and off the top of my head it is only Arsenal (Sanchez) who can fulfil those roles to a neccessary standard.
I think the other side to that coin is that Bony offers a different option to Aguero, because he's big and strong and good in the air and you won't get that from a striker who can also play in the wide areas. I guess they see Sterling as that player who can play anywhere across the front 4 positions, but with his primary position being wide left

That is all very true and would be a logical explanation for his signing.

It is all personal preference but you wonder how he will ever be sharp enough, to slot in and replace Aguero with little game time. The likes of Walcott/Sanchez can play out wide and then slip into the middle as and when required.

I was a bit tough on Bony on tuesday but it was a big ask for him to fulfil that role coming into the team cold.

Pathetic and I doubt you were there. Wasn't his best game, he was incredibly isolated playing against the most experienced defence in Europe.

He created a perfect chance to kill the game. I thought he was also brought down by Chiellini for a penalty in the first half when he got in front of him.

Fans judging players this fast, with so much hatred are obviously not fans at all...

Seriously, Juventus sold his spine, Vidal, Pirio, Tevez. They bought a very bad replacement of majority. Rugani, Mandzukic, Dybala, Zaza (who showed at least talent in Italy). Juventus is bad at the moment, perhaps the worst I watch Juventus in the last 5 years. Just to explain how bad the first round lost to Udinese 1 0 at home (judges traditionally help Juventus in Serie A, although they sometimes help is not necessary, but they lost). Second round Roma they broke them. Literally there were periods where Roma looked like Barcelona in that match. This same Dzeko, who went more because he could not get even 10 minutes since we bought Bony was terrorized the defense of Juventus and the score where Chelini by the Italians was completely outmaneuvered. Beyond that almost Juventus lose to Chievo 1 0 (Chievo figure it's like a West Brom of Series A), Juve defends himself at home against poor Chievo bearly, where hey manage to reach some game and course get a pen and equalize, after which Chievo again dominated by them and becomes clear goal disallowed and not given clear penalty for Chievo. Now another very important fact, Mandzukic player who has given us a goal in the 3 round of Serie A is not a shot on goal, but he scores to us. Very important to me was to emphasize all this because I see so many excuses Bony as he played against the best defense. The best defense there is no defense alone if the team is not at best form or fixed. Juve defense received goals from Cyril Thereau, Miralem Pjanic, Edin Dzeko and Perparim Hetemaj , Yet our stars score one fishy by defender .They are so shit that even in totally wrong setup by Pelle where he play without Navas slowing down our pace with Nasri and Silva choking each other and slowing our game, we should win by chance. Dzeko maybe was not the best player at City, but I think if he had to go, we should at list chase him off with somebody who can do a better job then Bony.Juventus is so bad in the current state (which does not mean that it will not fix), but as bad form they come to us ( And I think it s not just form they really make some poor transfer judgment) there is no justification for Bony not to create a lot more problems, as well as for other players. Bony, other than raw power I did not see anything special.Anyway just to add I m glad for Iheanacho , in him a see a lot I m just afraid of injury s.

Hush. Bony is the best. Ever.

not sure how we can judge a player that has barely started a dozen games , (Jovetic was similarly discarded by some "fans") , Bony holds the ball up well and gives 100% , but due to his lack of games he is snatching at chances , i think he is an accomplished centre forward who needs a run of games , we need to play 4-4-2 against some of the smaller /winnable games to accomodate Kun and Bony up front , and hopefully he will come good , when hes knocked in a couple of goals . Just give the guy a chance.

So what is your rant again?

Just lacking that finishing touch, once he gets one he will be flying. A bit more composure and he would have scored a brilliant goal on Tuesday.

That will only come with game time. He's a completely different player to Aguero, and a great option to have

Succes at the highest level is as much about mental toughness as skill and hard work. Very few players immediately adjust make an instant impact like Aguero did on his City debut. Most take from several games up to a season whilst they strike a balance between integrating into the team and adding their stamp.

Some new players look over-awed which manifests itself in lack of conviction and confidence. The pressure is to raise their game not just to a higher level but to perform consistently. Some do not adjust. Jovetic is a good player who never got the balance right. I put down his injury record from overstretching himself trying get to the level needed to succeed at City.

If Bony gets it together, he can be a great player for us, offering a different option to Aguero.
