When you look at other teams like dortmund they play the same formation with bender and gundogan as the midfield 2 and blaczoskwi(?) Reus and kagawa further up, Chelsea play it with cesc and magic, gooners with cazorla and coquelin, madrid played with kroos and Modric...
But do they press from the top? Press in packs? Do they make the pitch smaller by defending with all ten outfield players close to each other, making it hard to run through the middle of them? Do they play a high line or drop deeper when the other team win it back?

Formation is one thing, actual defensive tactics and systems is another. You could have an identical formation but be the polar opposite defensively with that formation.

And what happens is that either both of those midfield pairs put in a shift in both halves of the pitch or their team suffers greatly when they don't. See Chelsea this season.

With regards to some calling Yaya a disgrace; I've heard better performing players with a higher work rate get called a lot worse. Doesn't make it right but it's more understandable in my opinion. I don't believe for a second that Manuel is forcing him to play all these games and Yaya doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to allow himself to be forced to play when he doesn't want to.

I don't watch them so how am I supposed to know...besides all the things you stated is why the 10 outfield players are supposed to do, not one person.

I didn't see silva or kdb bust a gut pressing the Everton players midweek, in fact the whole season so far

Sorry, but if you haven't seen Silva bust a gut to press or track back this season, you've not been watching close enough.

The players didnt play for mourinho (edit*)this season for whatever reason, somehow they've won a couple of games playing the same formation and pretty much the same players bar the odd injury.

It depends, maybe we have different ways of expressing our feelings whether it's right or not, i've also done it but it's more tongue in cheek if anything

I genuinely think he is. You could tell yaya was knackered against Everton midweek even if wanted him to come off yet pellers carried on playing him. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he starts tomorrow

I have been watching and imo he hasn't. Sterling on the other hand has been busting a gut.

Yup, Sterling always puts in the effort. If Silva plays tomorrow, watch him throughout the game when he doesn't have the ball. When we're attacking he doesn't stay still and moves about all the time to pull the opposition out of shape. When we're defending he closes down, tracks back and is more than willing to take a yellow card to stop a counterattack/ get revenge for his ankles being kicked. Keeping in mind that he hasn't been at full fitness for a while as well.
