While Yaya is a City player its one and the same thing.

Virtually every player thread on here at the moment contains the same crap, its pathetic, its not even reasoned discussion any more, even Silva doesn't get away without getting some stick.

Supporters support, through good and bad, not when it suits, I don't have an issue with debate and discussion, but when it gets to "hoping for a 4 month injury", its time somebody said something. Also those shouting loudest are not representative of our support, certainly not those that go to games anyway. Yaya didn't even play on Saturday, yet 3000 blues still belted his song out.

We've even got people telling us today that he'll disrespect the club the minute he leaves, why, its given him personally his most career success.

We've had some dross play for this club over the years, yet some of our current players and manager, are getting stick way beyond what is reasonable.

To be fair Yaya has got previous, if only I was from Burnley I could count the number of times he's disrespected the club on one hand.

Awww thank you :)

I agree with the rest of your post other than this.

When Ben Thatcher knocked Pedro Mendes out did he deserve our full support? Same goes for Barton. Even the Tevez incident(s). He redeemed himself on the pitch and earned the support and that's the point; support has to be earned not dished out just because a bloke is wearing our shirt.

The Barton and Thatcher incidents are extremes but it proves there is a line to be crossed. Many people clearly think that that line is when a player stops putting in the effort. After that point, like Tevez, the support has to be earned back. Otherwise, what you're describing is blind faith.

The debate has occurred because some think he is putting in the effort and some don't. It's not like we're Villa fans abusing the guy from the touch line, we're voicing our discontent on a forum for christ's sake. I, and I would hope there are others on this thread, would never hurl abuse at Yaya from the stands as it's counterproductive.

Like I said, I agree with the rest of your post, especially about wishing injury on any of our players, but will never offer my unconditional support to someone just because they are associated with Manchester City. Personally, I think it's dangerous, illogical and does a disservice to those who put their time and money into being a fan of the club.

Edit: apologies for the format, copied and pasted after issues with the site prevented me from posting.

Bravo.

The team selection on Wednesday will be very interesting. I think Yaya's position could be under threat from Delph...he is improving and getting fitter with every game. The combination of Delph and Fernandinho with their stamina, speed and power is certainly a good option.

We all agree that Yaya had his best season with us in 2013/14 right?

This article says he was averaging the same number of sprints per game in that season that he has so far this season.

Statistics, particularly single statistics taken out of context mean nothing. Not even his mother would say he's having a magnificent season. What would the comparable stats for 'runners going past him like he's not there' or 'minutes spent slowly loping back up field' look like?

Don't get me wrong, he is still a very good player with a part to play. We've seen what he can do, especially late in the game. The problems are, he's often asked to play in a way he can no longer manage; and he's picked for games and roles when he's not the best choice because he seems to be an automatic pick. Against some teams and styles it does no one any favours to put him as one of the midfield two. Or at the very least, not make rapid changes when it's going badly wrong.

His contribution to our successes should neither be underestimated nor disrespected. He is one of the greatest players we've had in my long memory and when he leaves it should be to a standing ovation.

Your first sentence is more or less the point I was trying to make.
