The guy is shit, end of. He was one of the best in the world briefly but has been nowhere near that class for a long time. Silva injured: KDB at attacking midfield right? Wrong, Yaya gets crowbarred in there every time and there's absolutely no reason for it. It's not his best position any more and he offers the grand total of fuck all to the team.
Agreed 1 million percent. Our whole system of possession football is just so flawed though and it is lightyears behind the 2-3-2-3 that Pep has introduced at Bayern and Barcelona. He uses that formation as a building block and then alters depending on opponent. It's reckoned that in his 128 games with Bayern he has never used the exact same formation in consecutive games, instead using it to alter his shape and area of attack depending on the opponent and their apparent weakness. The guys a genius.Yes! Been saying this since the days of Micah, Lescott and De Jong. Back in the hay day when their defensive fortitude were so exalted that folks refused to find fault with them. Comfort on the ball, is the absolute basic requirement every City player MUST possess. Ignore all other great quality if this specific one is lacking. Simply put, those who don't have it simply shouldn't apply. Second, we need a pressure mentality, that unfortunately is about coaching philosophy. Hence why our coach can't and shouldn't last.
Most teams can't afford defenders who are comfortable on the ball, and the best way to break most teams down is to pressure their defenders intensely. Funny enough, when we started doing it to Juventus, they started making mistakes defensively. The whole right side, Barzagli, and lienchenstein or whatever his name is, we're both terrible on the ball and wilted constantly under pressure. Only the left back was decent on the ball, yet we often let them walk it out of the back in the 1st half.

Against Juventus, at the Etihad we tried to set traps for their centre backs I think. We let Chiellini walk the ball out before pouncing on whoever received his pass, and we caught him out a few times because he misplaced a few passes and left a big gap behind him. I'm surprised we didn't build on this and think of a plan to press their backline with, because once we actually did something proactive, we caught them out and took possession off them.
Getting back to Toure, I'm wondering if Pep comes, if he will have Toure playing centre back as he winds down and reinforcements in the middle arrive. I'd be surprised if he wanted to lose him altogether, and thinking back to his Barca days, he did use him as centre back. And he did the same with Mascherano and Javi Martinez. I mean, for Christ's sake, he trusted Dante long enough as his centre back so he might as well give it a go with Yaya.
