Player who most surpassed expectations

Fernandinho was the first I thought of. Never thought he'd be as important as we was the season before last.

When we signed Gerry Gow back in 1980 I was bemused to say the least, how wrong I was to doubt him !
He was absolutely brilliant and is one of my all time favourite City players RIP Gerry my kind of midfield ball winner !!!

Has to be VK, surely?

Signed as a decent if not exceptional defensive mid, and turned into arguably the best centre half in world football (at his peak).

Zabaleta would be the obvious choice.

After our takeover, very few could have foreseen that he would be our first choice right back for several years.

Clichy, Hart and Kompany all exceeded expectations, too.

Was just going to post Toure myself. Never expected what we got. Outstanding player.
For me he was always one of those 'if he ever becomes available you just have to get him' midfielders. Could see the magic when he was at barca, you canusually notice in the way they shield and retain the ball. All the time in the world amd they know exactly what they're going to do with it next eithout seeming to actually make much effort. Saw similar qualities in Zidane and Kanu. Relaxed and in control whem on the ball.

When we got him I knew something spevial had arrived.

He ran the pre season game v Olympiacos......couldn't take my eyes off him.

Bobby Manc knew a player !!
